To say that the Vishva Hindu PariÂshad (VHP), which spearheaded the Ram Mandir movement over the past 30 years, and the larger Sangh Parivar were overjoyed with the apex court verdict on the Ayodhya temple issue would be a gross understatement. But amidst the celebrations, there are already rumblings about who will be part of the court-ordered trust charged with building the temple.
The bickering started even before the full import of the judgment had sunk in, with Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, head of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, saying there was no need for another trust as the Nyas itself was a trust formed to build the Ram temple. However, Mahant Dinendra Das of the Nirmohi Akhara, which had claimed ownership of the Ram Lalla (the court rejected its rights claim), has opposed the Nyas, saying the latter should join it in the new trust.
