When Debbie Killingback, 53, started the menopause a couple of years ago, the symptoms hit her like a ton of bricks. ‘I had joint pain, anger issues, anxiety, panic attacks, and I couldn’t sleep. I’d always been outgoing and chatty, but as my hormones dipped, so did my confidence. I was becoming this person I no longer recognised. I even used to worry about taking the dog out in case I bumped into someone.’
Two years on, Debbie says she’s ‘just coming out of that weird stage’. As a result of her own struggles, she set up the Hot Flush Club, a support group for menopausal women. ‘For many women, going through menopause can be a really tough transition.
