MULTITASK WITH YOUR MAC & iOS

Though many of us are loath to admit it, we often can’t do two things at once; but your Mac is nevertheless on hand with the facilities to help you do just that, and more. As we use our Macs so much, we tend to revert to form, meaning that our desktops become quickly populated with open folders and app windows. However, a certain built-in utility called Mission Control can change all that in an instant, snapping your clutter into uniformed positions on the desktop and making it easy for you to find what you need without having to manually drag or reduce windows. Then there’s split-screen mode that allows you to block out an untidy, distracting desktop by allowing you to focus on two apps at a time. Or, if you’re welcoming of distractions, then Picture-in-Picture mode lets you watch videos while you work in a small viewing portal in the corner of your screen. Apple wants you to be the master of your Mac and by exploring all of what it has to offer, you can find new and improved ways of working that allow you to accomplish more in a shorter amount of time.

If you also factor in the ways in which your iPhone and iPad can be connected to your Mac to act as a second screen or a writing pad then you have an eco-system that is very much geared towards helping you multitask and achieve more.

Make use of split-screen

While many of us keep lots of apps open on our Macs, it can make focusing on the task at hand problematic. Thankfully our Macs feature a neat built-in feature that allows you to run apps in split-screen, which is incredibly handy for studying, for example.

Using split-screen

Assigning two different apps to tiles on either side of the screen can greatly improve your focus as it cuts out all other distractions.

Exiting split-screen

You can exit split-screen mode at any time by hovering your cursor over the green circle in the top-left and then choosing the ‘Exit Full Screen’ option.

Tiled apps

When you tile windows to the left and right of the screen, equal prominence will be given to each one while handily blocking out everything else from your desktop.
