2019 is the year of the follow-up. The three most exciting voices in horror (for my money, anyway) all have second features out this year that take the genre to new levels. Jordan Peele’s (out on Blu-ray this month) was bold, angry and unsettling, more on Jennifer Kent’s shortly, and Ari Aster’s is out now. A -esque folk horror based in, with a very funny sex scene and good bits with a herring and a bear. It’s an intoxicating combination of extreme beauty, peace and joy, and bad-trip levels of oppressive dread. I’m not saying is more disturbing than , but Aster might just have ruined sunshine, flowers and singing…
