R&A chief believes we’ve reached pivotal moment in golf’s history

The R&A and USGA’s long-awaited Distance Insights Report made headlines earlier this month with its conclusion that increased hitting distances are bad for the game and its future.

The report found a 100-year trend of increased hitting distances as well as an increase in the length of golf courses across the world.

Martin Slumbers, chief executive of The R&A, said: “We believe we have reached a pivotal moment in golf.
