Adding initials to linens and other household items is a longstanding tradition. Women used to prepare their “bridal trousseau” years in advance, pre-embroidering their first and maiden initials, leaving a space in the middle for their future surname. Nearly all the household linens would be monogrammed with only the wife’s married initials.
