Preparing for change

PEOPLE THESE days talk about ‘disruption’, but it’s hardly anything new. The ‘spinning jenny’ disrupted the weaving industry; the gas light disrupted traditional notions of what constituted a working day; the internal combustion engine disrupted the horse and carriage trade (and was hailed as heralding cleaner streets and cities – nobody mentioned CO2 back then). Business has never been about certainties. The only constant is change, and the speed of change is getting faster than ever.
