Laura Smith*, a sports equipment supplier in her mid-40s, experienced a racing heart three years ago. She put it down to panic attacks caused by overwork or single parenting. When the attacks didn’t stop after trying to smell the roses, she went to the doc, who diagnosed A-Fib.
Smith was stunned. “Aren’t heart problems something old people get?” she asked. She was fit, vegetarian and not even 50 – and her doctor was talking about stroke and sudden death!
