So it’s shocking that only a quarter of people in South Africa with a diagnosable mental illness are receiving treatment. What’s stopping people from coming forward? Shame at admitting that something might actually be wrong with them, fear of being stigmatised, a lack of awareness of the help that’s available to them, and the cost of treatment.
