Former Portland Timbers striker Brian Fernandez has been suspended by his current club Atletico Colon for missing weeks of training. Before joining the Superliga Argentina club, the 25-year old left MLS after the Timbers moved to terminate his contract over a substance abuse issue.
EMERSON ROMANCE
Atlanta United midfielder Emerson Hyndman says he is very excited to see rock group My Chemical Romance headlining Music Midtown in Atlanta this September. After a nine-year hiatus, My Chemical Romance have announced a North American comeback tour for the ages. Beginning in Detroit on Sept. 9, the tour will run through October and may be a precursor to the band’s first record since 2010.
HEALTHY SLEEVE
Atlanta United have a new sleeve sponsor, with the club announcing that Georgia’s largest healthcare provider Piedmont Healthcare will now have a home on the 2018 MLS Cup winners’ jersey. They’ll also become the kit sponsor for Atlanta United 2, the Five Stripes’ reserve team that competes in the USL Championship.
A BLANK CHECK
Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank advised fellow MLS owners to invest heavily on their teams to emulate his club’s success. After debuting as an expansion side in 2017, United already brought in their first silverware by winning the MLS Cup in 2018. The club also enjoyed massive financial success and are currently valued at $500m.
LIP SERVICE
The news of Adam Jahn signing as an Atlanta United player didn’t go down well with many of the club’s fans. Jahn infamously put his index finger to his lips facing the United crowd three years ago as he scored the winning goal for Columbus Crew against the Five Stripes. But Jahn now claims he was promoting his friend’s brand “Don’t Miss, Don’t Matter’’ by making the gesture. Is that explanation going to help the 29-year-old to
