On the surface, the Onkyo A-9010 looks like a pretty ordinary amplifier. It is neat in a wholly functional way, but lacking any overt design flourishes and it is clear that pretty much all of Onkyo's efforts have been concentrated upon optimising the electronics inside this chunky black box.

But when the A-9010 arrived in 2015, it transformed the market for budget amplifiers, delivering a wonderfully musical Awards in its category.
