DAYTON, Ohio _ Gale Halderman, who gained fame as the artist who sketched the original Ford Mustang, died April 29 at age 87 from liver cancer at Upper Valley Medical Center.
Halderman’s hand-drawn 1962 sketch demonstrated the shape and styling of the original Mustang, including the long scoop on the Mustang’s side. The Mustang design highlighted Halderman’s 40-year career at Ford Design.
He had graduated from the Dayton Art Institute in 1954 and started his Ford career as a designer in the Lincoln-Mercury studio. He went on to work in several design offices within the Ford umbrella, eventually helping
