Tupelo, Mississippi

Long famed as the birthplace of Elvis Presley, Tupelo, Mississippi, is a city built on unabashed Southern charm. But make no mistake—this isn’t your average old sleepy town. Boasting a dynamic art scene, soulful eats, and plenty of hospitality to boot, this small city is home to a new wave of creatives focused on one thing: making Tupelo the best it can be.
Tupelo abounds with artistic tributes worth experiencing.

Elvis may have been the king of rock and roll, but in Tupelo, Connie’s Fried Chicken is the king of breakfast. This well-loved restaurant has been feeding hungry patrons sinfully good, down-home Southern food for about four decades. For breakfast that means juicy, golden fried chicken sandwiched in a fluffy house-made biscuit; and if that’s not enough, ask for the gravy, which will earn you creamy white gravy poured on top. You might not expect fried chicken aficionados to double as doughnut wizards, but this hotspot is full of surprises, including their wondrous blueberry doughnuts. These cakey treats taste like blueberry muffins but cradled in a delicate sugary glazed crust.

is another breakfast spot where you’ll find even more variety. With topping options like spicy fried chicken, smoked sausage, house-made peach jam, and tomato gravy, it’s difficult to get past the build-your-own biscuits at this newly opened spot. But we also love their fresh fruit-topped yogurt, a vibrant java shop located inside a downtown coworking space called . An idea that sparked over a casual car-ride conversation between husband and wife Pete and Kelley Vance, Tupelo River Coffee began slowly as a mobile cart at events before finally opening their gorgeous storefront earlier this year. Here, they serve rich, bold-tasting coffee made from beans that they roast locally. For an indulgent combo, order a flawless latte and a cream cheese-glazed cinnamon roll. Whatever breakfast you choose, make sure you’re fueled and well-fed for a busy day ahead.
