Fifty Years of Exhibitions: Waverley Model Railway Club

Fifty years ago a group of model railway enthusiasts began meeting informally in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. In 1970 they decided to formalise their group and so began the Waverley Model Railway Club.

Initial meetings took place in a school until a room at Tally Ho Boy’s Home was obtained. In 1973 the club was forced to find new premises and for some time was effectively homeless. Finally, the club gained a permanent home in a hall in Ashwood, which is still in use today. A second hall was obtained in North Dandenong in 2000 to cater for the expansion of
