BRYAN SCHMITT SPENT a big part of his teenage years mowing lawns to earn fishing tackle money. A fitting precursor for the Maryland stick who brings a fierce mastery of tidal-grass tactics to his first season on the Bassmaster Elite Series.

During his FLW career, the pro from Deale, Md., notched nine combined wins on the Potomac River, James River and Chesapeake Bay. Suffice it to say, his tidal-water insights are well-founded.
