Is it possible to expand my Mac’s Photos app editing tools or shall I just use a different app altogether? Jane McGoldrick

1 Get extensions

You can expand the editing capabilities of your Photos app using extensions. Open the App Store and install the ‘Polarr Photo Editor Lite’ and ‘Skitch Markup’ applications. Both are free.

2 Enable them

Open System Preferences> Extensions>Photo Editing and tick all of the extension boxes to enable them to be used from within the Photos app. Now simply open your Mac’s Photos app.

3 Try them out

Pick a photo and click ‘Edit’, then click on the ‘…’ icon to list all of the available extensions. The selected extension will run within the Photos window and add more functions.
