TRADE TOKEN FEATURES ‘PICKLE IN A POUCH’ MANUFACTURER

WISCONSIN: The monthly meeting concept for coin clubs is starting to resurface in the lee of the pandemic, according to a report appearing in the June 2020 issue of the Milwaukee Numismatic News, the Milwaukee Numismatic Society’s monthly newsletter. Following three consecutive months of cancellations, the June meeting convened in the Community Room at the recently reopened Mayfair Mall. The issue also carried a liberally illustrated feature on the history of the “Pickle in A Pouch” marketed by the local Van Holten’s pickling firm, it being their flagship product since 1939, according to author Tom Casper. The firm traces its history back to 1898, with the business of (Frank C.) Lewis & (Jerry Gerrit) Van Holten having issued a trade token during a 1902-09 partnership. Info: tcasper57@hotmail.com.
