Hollywood’s Juiciest Feuds!

“YOU SHOULD NEVER BLAST SOMEONE LIKE THAT in public.” That’s quality wisdom from Megan Fox. As you’ll read on, Fox learned the hard way that sniping at colleagues can have dire career consequences. Thankfully, every once in a while a star ignores such advice and veers from their painstakingly scripted talking points to open fire on one of their own, launching a celebrity feud into public view.

Such battles are part of Hollywood lore, and our fascination with said fights is just as enduring. After all, the entire reason we go to movies is to watch stories where talented, famous people pretend to have some kind of a conflict that generates drama or comedy. Celebrity feuds give us the real-life version of that. And with today’s publicity machines, where studios put stars through extensive media training to prevent them from blurting out anything that might be interesting honest unique problematic, a feud is a rare gift—a moment when multimillion-dollar promotional plans can be upended by pure, unfiltered famous-person-being-annoyed vitriol.

Also, since we’re talking about candor, let’s admit it: Finding out that somebody who’s portrayed as perfect has genuine flaws is always a relief, a popping of the image bubble that assures the rest of us that we’re not the only ones who have a colleague we secretly cannot stand (present magazine staff excluded, of course—I love you all!). Feuds have such an allure that we even feel a tad disappointed when they’re resolved. Especially these days—the more we find ourselves living amid chaos, the more the first-class pettiness of a star-crossed feud offers blissful escape.
