We are all becoming experts at using technology for scanning and storing our photographs digitally, but as custodians of precious original photographs dating back generations, we owe it to both our ancestors and our descendants to protect them for the future. Whether they are studio portraits or amusing snapshots, all are important records of our social history. Originals may also provide details of the photographer that will direct us to where they were created, and perhaps carry notes on the reverse from long-gone relations. Personal notes are so emotive, and undoubtedly add to our family history.
