There’s a variety of ways to get your cross stitch fix – books, designer websites, Etsy, eBay, your favourite magazines – and chart copyright will apply to them all. This is because copyright is automatically granted to the designer of a work if it is regarded as original and exhibits a degree of labour, skill or judgement. You don’t need to apply for it – as soon as someone puts pen to paper (or stitch to grid, in this case) that work is legally owned by them.

In order to protect designer copyright in , here’s some guidance on what you can and can’t do with the charts we publish:
