About this audiobook

The bestselling author of Postcards from the Edge comes clean (well, sort of) in her first-ever memoir, adapted from her one-woman Broadway hit show. Fisher reveals what it was really like to grow up a product of “Hollywood in-breeding,” come of age on the set of a little movie called Star Wars, and become a cultural icon and bestselling action figure at the age of nineteen.

Intimate, hilarious, and sobering, Wishful Drinking is Fisher, looking at her life as she best remembers it (what do you expect after electroshock therapy?). It’s an incredible tale: the child of Hollywood royalty—Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher—homewrecked by Elizabeth Taylor, marrying (then divorcing, then dating) Paul Simon, having her likeness merchandized on everything from Princess Leia shampoo to PEZ dispensers, learning the father of her daughter forgot to tell her he was gay, and ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed.

Wishful Drinking, the show, has been a runaway success. Entertainment Weekly declared it “drolly hysterical” and the Los Angeles Times called it a “Beverly Hills yard sale of juicy anecdotes.” This is Carrie Fisher at her best—revealing her worst. She tells her true and outrageous story of her bizarre reality with her inimitable wit, unabashed self-deprecation, and buoyant, infectious humor.

Carrie Fisher had a gift of telling her story that is so candid, sad, funny and eye-opening as to life of a celebrity child.

I can’t get enough of Carrie Fisher and her wit and charm her story, her life. I really never knew anything about her until I read the biography written unfortunately after she had passed. I’m so grateful that I get to hear her own voice read these stories to me. She seem to have a genuine beautiful spirit! If her daughter ever read these comments, I hope she knows that her mama‘s legacy lives on not for Star Wars, I didn’t really even know that Luke and Leah were brother and sister until the biography—-much love!

Such a good book. She is hilarious! Multiple times I had to stop the recording because I was laughing so hard I couldn't hear it.

Im not a huge star wars fan but this behind the scenes account of a world altering pop sensation was spot on. Loved every minute of it.

It was a little triggering. The description of why she takes pills and how they feel brought me back to my using days. But she also goes into great detail of how they fucked her life up.

Really awesome. Being read by the late great Carrie Fisher herself only aided in bringing it life.

I loved the self deprecating humour, the honesty and her story. So glad Carrie chose to read her own audio book

I really enjoyed this. Unlike other reviewers (3 stars I’m looking at you) I don’t know that much about her or her life, so I did learn something. Though I agree, not a lot. It is, however, very funny and I thoroughly enjoyed giggling my way through her anecdotes

An outstanding, laugh-out-loud book! Touching and poignant, as well. Especially as long as Carrie has been gone. A lovely celebration of Carrie’s life.

Anyone who has had any form of addiction or mental illness will relate to Carrie. Sounds like it would be depressing ,but her humor makes it a hilarious romp through her experiences ,both imagined and real.
Anyone wanting to better understand addiction and mental illness will also find this book..uh .educational.
I'm sorry she died so young. I think it is her sense of humor that allowed her to live as long as she did. After all, how easy is it to accept life as a Pez dispenser, among other things.

I laughed a lot! This is actually a very easy (audio)reading, and I dare to say the experience of having The Carrie Fisher speaking her own words is better than having to read them on paper, since you get the actual feeling the author put on them. She talks to us with such sincerity, like she's a friend. I was a big fan of her humor, wits and sarcasm on social media (aaand I've been a fan of Star Wars since long ago), so I enjoyed this very much. Looking forward to listen to the rest of her works.

Carrie Fisher’s wit and brilliance are the gifts she left to her fans and followers. This book displays how expertly she can make humor from heartache. Beautiful insights.

Good book, but the reading is so over the top. Its actually pretty annoying. Would have been much better without the theatrics. Sorry Carrie.

It’s not surprising that Carrie died so young as she led at least 3 lives in her 60 years with us. I highly recommend the audio version of her book as she reads it in her own unique Carrie way. I miss her.

To start on the positive, this is a very short read!Ok, now that I've got that out of the way, I have to say, I didn't like this book. I am a very sympathetic person, and I really feel for the author's battles with addiction and mental illness. I've had my own! But she comes off, to me, as a very unlikable person, and I didn't really care too much about her as a person. I know it's much, much deeper, but she is a person who came from two rich and famous parents, starred in one of the biggest movies of all time, became an icon, and married one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. And it all is told as if she survived some kind of world war (my opinion). For me, it was just hard to read about some complaining about the hardships of being rich and famous. But I do hope she stays sober and wins her battles with her mental health! I just won't read another of her books.
