FBI agent Olivia Sotiris is on a much needed vacation at her grandmothers’ house on the Greek island of Patmos. All she wanted to do was relax and forget about Otis Crump whose somehow been stalking her from his maximum security jail cell. Relaxation isn’t something her grandmother has in mind though. Her grandmother is determined to see twenty four year old Olivia engaged, married, or have a significant other by the time she leaves the island. She’s getting assaulted by so many single men that it would be surprising to learn she was secretly the new “Bachelorette”. It doesn’t help that Olivia has “a gift” that she can read other people’s emotions and know when they’re lying. This kind of puts a damper in a relationship. Then one wakeful night she goes outside and see’s a mysterious figure jogging on the beach. Olivia, being her grandmother’s daughter, takes her grandmothers telescope and uses it not to watch the stars, but the man running; and what a man he was. What is even more intriguing about this man is that she can’t read him. Robby MacKay is determined to get into shape again after being brutally tortured by “The Malcontents”. His great great great grandfather Angus has decided that a vacation, and a therapist, is just what Robby needs. Robby agrees to the vacation, but not the therapist. He decides to go and stay at a covenant members house on the Greek island of Patmos. Course he’s not going there for the sunny beaches. That’s because Robby is a vampire. Not the sparkly kind, but the real dead during the day, drinks non-animal blood, only come out at night vampire. Course he has a few abilities up his sleeve including teleportation, super strength, hearing, and sight. He’s practically a nocturnal superman with his kryptonite being silver. Now one night as Robby is jogging on the beach he spots what he believes to be an angel. Now he has on authority from Anakin Skywalker that angels are the most beautiful thing in the galaxy, but they live on the moons of Iego so obviously this woman can’t be one; Perhaps a goddess. Whatever she is Robby is intrigued and so the story begins. This book was different for me because I rather like the plotline, but hated the romance. I mean hated. There was no buildup or even friendship for Robby and Olivia. It was merely “You’re hot. No you’re hot. We’re both hot. Let’s have sex”. This is after knowing each other for two days. They also greatly love each other after only each other for TWO DAYS. It’s like they needed “True Love's Kiss” from Enchanted playing in the background. Perhaps some fields to frolic through. It’s completely unrealistic and seems like lazy writing. Something I find highly troublesome since the main plotline of a serial killer being obsessed with Olivia and was somehow stalking her was engrossing and well done. I really wanted Olivia to end up with J.L at the end. They had more chemistry to me than she did with Robby which seemed to be all about sex and good looks. To me Robby + Olivia = love based on sex and lust of each other. Olivia + J/.L = friendship, mutual respect, and the right road for a healthy and happy relationship. All I could think of at the end was the divorce court would be in Robby and Olivia’s lives in a few years since you can’t expect a relationship to last on mere lust and the ability to not be able to read the guy’s mind. It just doesn't happen, but this is Kerrelyn’s world and she can do what she wants. So 3 stars for: Awesome plotline, well written side characters, & being a page turner.

Mini Book Review: Won't lie to you, wasn't expecting much from the title, but Natasha convinced me that I would enjoy it. She was right, it was a perfect light and funny read with plenty of action to keep the story moving. I understand that it is part of a series but the story is told in such a way, that you really don't need to read the rest of the series to figure out what is going on. Robbie and Olivia are both charming, likeable leads and the secondary characters get you intrigued enough to want to know more about them, in other words just enough to go out and get the other books in the series (Yup, I will be doing that). I like Kerrelyn's writing style and the dialogue is just plain hilarious at times. This would be perfect for a day at the beach or to escape on a cold winters night.3.75 Dewey'sI borrowed this from Natasha - after I totally gave it to her for Christmas last year

I Loved it as much as the others in this series.Gorgeous vampire Robby McKay has been sent to the Greek Island of Patmos to get over injuries he suffered at the hands his nemises Cashimir, leader of the Malcontents. He meets a human, Olivia Sotiris, who is also on the island because of an incident with a serial killer during her work as an FBI psycologist. This story was so easy to read, I did not want to put it down until I had finished it.

This was a good one. I loved seeing Robby able to heal and move on to what's really important after his torture. It was hard seeing him struggle with his desire for revenge. I like when the tough guys are "saved" by a woman. And Olivia is a strong female lead for this book. She's bad ass and tough but still a little scared and vulnerable. I liked the little peaks into Phineas and his current struggle with the woman he is into as well and can't wait to see more and how that all works out for him. I also enjoy reading more with Carlos, he's very intriguing to me. And finally, it was great to meet another shifter. I like how they keep popping up where you'd least expect them.

Why make this book look cheesy on purpose? I love this series, and I believe that Sparks is the best author as far as paranormal romance stories go (example: She is way more original and entertaining than most of the authors who write primarily love story/romances with a little fang thrown in. (For example: Lynsay Sands who is getting predictable). The "Love at Stake" series has a fairly unique plot for each book, and the characters are fabulous. I love that we continue to regularly see previous 'stars'. However, this cover is just kooky. The cover is embarrassing to be seen with, and the vampire is completely not Robby, the red headed Scottish security guard. I have to say this gentleman does look much more handsome on the inside flap! Still though, not Robby. I didn't care for the over-the-top sounding name of the book either and its a shame since its inner content was so much fun to read. I think the "Love at Stake" series does succeed because Sparks is so innovative in the backgrounds she gives her characters and their personalities do shine through. The bigger plot of the war with the Malcontents is a great way to keep readers coming back for more. I for one want to see it when these evil vampires get thier due. Olivia is a good girl, and I thought she was a great match for Robby and the 'virgin' line waws well handled and didn't seem unrealistic. I just wish it wasn't a banner announcement in the book title! If you are a lover of things paranormal and don't mind a romance heavy plot, the "Love at Stake" series is darn close to the best out there and I highly recommend picking up the excellent first book in the series that started this all!

It was just OK for me. I'm not a fan of stories where trust is a major issue and that was the majority of this story. I also really never felt like I got to see the characters interact with each other very much. They spent months apart and interacted over the web. We were told this, but weren't a part of it. I really liked Robbie, but I wasn't a fan of Olivia. She was a bit too wishy washy for me, and I don't care what her talent was, I didn't see her surviving in the FBI.

This book was probably one of the best I’ve read in a while. I laughed, I cried, I sat on the edge of seat waiting in suspense. It’s an all around great book. And the way it’s Narrated is awesome as well. She does good accents and emotion and just brings the characters to life

Again another hit. Can't wait to see her next book. Bought this one out of sink but it was still great. Made me want the rest in her Series. Kerrlyn Sparks can write a good Vampire story. Makes you want to believe that if there were Vampires you'd want these guys on your side. A good read. Very satisfied in the end. Left you wanting more.

This was one of those so,so reads. If I had been actually reading a paper novel, I would have jumped to the end. I wouldn't have been able to keep reading it myself. I kept getting distracted while trying to listen. ?

I found this in a random collection on my eBook reader and thought I'd give it a go. I didn't realise til about halfway through it that it actually forms part of a series, and I gotta say... I won't be going back to read them from the beginning.

I found this book rather bland, but the idea of the story kept me interested enough to want to know how it ends. Still, it felt like someone had written fanfiction and then changed the names of the characters to turn it into an actual book.

The characters weren't that engaging, and the story was quite dull and predictable.

Not a book I'd buy, and not something I'd ever read again.

The Vampire and the Virgin by Kerrelyn SparksLove at Stake series book 8. Paranormal vampire romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. FBI agent Olivia takes a vacation on the Greek island of Patmos and meets kilted Robby MacKay. He’s way more interesting to her than the local Greek boys her Grandmother’s friends are pushing her to date. When an old threat occurs, Robbie is protective and resourceful. A bit of humor in this fast-paced, instant love vamp and the virgin storyline. There is background of an ongoing war between vampires and support from previous characters in the series. Mostly Robbie has to get past his revenge issues. Fun, engaging and sexy.

This book started out great, really great and I thought, 'finally she is writing humorous story lines with out all the stupidity'. I thought too soon. About 1/4 to a 1/3 into the book, the heroine turns into a distrustful, paranoid, idiot, who doesn't allow herself to think for herself.

I did, kind of, like the book, because of the humor at the beginning and the very ending, but the middle 1/2 was bad. Every poor reaction, poor decision, bad conclusion from poor evidence, going against instinct, not letting the guy defend himself by one, not confronting him, two not opening and actually throwing away letters, every wrong conclusions she makes due to misconceptions of vampires, and every over reaction, all while she was supposedly in love, made me dislike Olivia and have very poor opinion of her and her intelligence.

I keep thinking that Sparks will fix the blaring inconsistency with telephone travel and traveling to "answering machines". Ten years before this book, that would have been OK as many still used answering machines though even then, 10 years back, people frequently used voice mail. Today, even most businesses use voice mail, not answering machines. Most use cell phones, like she has everyone use in the book, and they have only voice mail. I cannot even fathom a FBI phone having a answering machine. No they would have locked/password protected voice mail. She has them move to several locations with answering machines. Maybe if I wasn't furious with Olivia, I would have overlooked this again but it just made my eyes roll. If it is voice mail, where would they appear? At the room where the server is located that saves the messages? Across the country, maybe in a totally different country?

Still the beginning was very fun and funny and they really had a chemistry going. The story other than the romance was pretty good if not obvious, and the ending was fine. So I guess I'll give it a 3 star, though I struggled thinking that 2 might be more correct. I thought it was going to be great from the beginning and was sorely disappointed.

Another good book in this series with exciting action, steamy scenes and plenty of humor. I particularly liked how this book dealt with building trust in a relationship. Both on stress leave from their jobs in Greek island of Patmos, FBI psychologist Olivia is attracted to Robby not knowing he's a vampire.
