This is better, and longer, than part three, but it does end on one heck of a cliffhanger.
This book was just not as good as the first three. The time line of the book really got to me. I find it hard to believe that all of the things Zoey and her friends went through happened in two measly months! The other thing that annoyed me was Zoey's flip-flopping between all of her "boyfriends". Her hormones definitely needed toning down and I just didn't want to read about it anymore. The plot was interesting, but I'm getting to the point where I don't care about what is happening. I'm not as anxious to read the next book as I was previously. 3.5 stars
Another great story in the House of Night Series. Now we find Zoey Redbird feeling alone since the last book. Aphrodite has returned and is still mean but can be nice. Zoey and Aphrodite are starting to become good friends.Finally Zoe comes clean and tells her friends everything about Stevie Rae, Neferet and why she could not let them in on knowing everything. The fact that Neferet is a physic and would be able to find out that Zoe and her friends know what is going on is why her friends had to be kept in the dark.Now that they all know they are willing to help Zoey and Aphrodite at any time. I loved how Zoey has grown into her powers. She is starting to realize that she can do great things and is staying on the good side of everything.Zoey's grandmother also makes an appearance in this book. We also meet the Sisters of the Stray Cat Rescue. I loved the Sisters!! They were entertaining. There is evil being raised. Zoe and her friends must stop this raising during a cleansing ritual. Will they be able to prevent the demons being raised that would kill all those who are human and stand in the way of the 'True Goddess'?The ending left me a little sad but I am very interested in seeing what the next book has in store.

"Untamed" is a work of fiction. Zoey's friends have turned on her. She doesnt have any boyfriends. Now, she is an outcast. Her best friend is dead but some how still alive. Her leader and mentor is now evil. Zoey needs to patch things up with her friends. Although she can't do this well while Neferet is watching. I did not like "Untamed" very much. Everything seemed to happen all at once. One day she has friends and the next she doesn't. Sometimes, everything was predictable.There were lots of new important characters through out the book. Everything was super confusing because of names and also the dialoge. Overall "Hunted" wasn't a very good book, but was also very addicting, and very confusing.
I've chosen to re-read the series because I'm hearing so much about it lately and it seems so much different from what I can remember. The first time around I liked it but found some of the plot boring, melodramatic and pretty much the same old vampire story as well as the characters being just plain annoying. Lets hope the second time around will be better, yes? So until then..
Zoey Redbird sure does have a lot to deal with as a fledgling vampire. However with the help of her friends, NYX, her grandmother, her humanity and her faith she can overcome and knows just what to do. I am excited to read more about Zoey and her family (not just friends anymoe). Waiting patiently for the next book to come out in the series.
After loosing all three of her boyfriends, and for a time her friends, this book is about Zoey coming into her own and becoming a high priestess. After winning her friends back with the help of Aphrodite, who we are now to forgive and forget that she was 'evil', Zoey meets yet another boy who has a dog (GASP!). Who she promptly falls for and declares her soul mate after a whooping 3 conversations and death scene kiss. This books is the first book that seems to be transitioning the characters into adulthood, we see Cherokee legends, Grandma Redbird, some nuns, and an ancient Vampyre leader.
Though I liked the story there were some really really annoying things to overlook in this book and perhaps the series in general. The constant catch-up bits from previous books, the repetitive use of Grandma Redbird's use of the Cherokee word for daughter and the language use - the twins' converstion and the vocabulary words spouted and explained by Damien mostly, and the forced relationship between Damien and Jack makes me cringe. The cheesey all-for-on-and-one-for-all group feeling in this reminded me of Buffy's Scooby-gang. Other than these things Untamed was enjoyable and I look forward to reading [b:Hunted].
This one ends with a BANG!
I very much enjoyed it and started straight on to the next one. If it's one thing the Cast's can do, it's a cliff hanger. My "just one more chapter" turned into two more hours. Oops.

Each book thus far has given me the reaction of, "Ooh, now the real action's started!" And then the next book shatters that opinion and makes me state it all over again. Pieces of the full story are slowly and intriguingly revealed as this series goes on, the way a good series should do and the way so many fail to do well. It ended at the right spot to make me desperate to pick up the next book and start reading to find out what happens next, what new mysteries will be hinted at and what new details will be revealed.I want to say so much about the final few chapters of this novel, but I can't do so without giving massive spoilers, and I'd much rather my reviews tantalize people into reading the novels for themselves rather than laying the story out for them in advance. Suffice to say I was surprised and impressed at the whole circle ritual (though not particularly surprised at the fulfilling of the earlier prophecy).I was particularly interested in the melding of mythologies presented in Untamed. This has been touched on before, in the beginning where Nyx states that she has gone by many names in many different mythologies, but here there's a melding of Christian and the neo-Wiccan beliefs of the vampyres (Sister Mary Angela saying that she views Nyx as an aspect of the Virgin Mary), and Christianity with Cherokee folktales (Kalona's relation to the Nephilim).I was also pleased to see an elaboration on the concept of the People of Faith. In previous books, this group had been presented as though they were a thinly veiled metaphor for Christianity as a whole, but here we see quite clearly that there are merely a denomination of the religion instead of the whole representation. Whether that was originally intended or enough readers complained that Christianity was being given a bad rap, I don't know, but this book also has references to Wicca as a seperate religion from the vampyre's religion also. It's nice to see elaborations.I do have one minor complaint with these novels (well, aside from the painful and ironic commentary on geeks, that is), and that's the fact that the authors all too frequently have Zoey or her friends comment on Damien and Jack's homosexuality. Not in a derogatory way. Quite the opposite, in fact, the vast majority of the time. But the comments are needless, and come across less as character thoughts and more as a way of the authors saying, "Look at how okay we are with the idea of being friends with gay people."It also seems that the authors have little grasp on how to write gay males without having them be more than a little effeminate. Jack's giggling, Damien's interest in fashion and shopping... Especially in Jack's case. I wonder if they felt they had to do that to get readers to recongize homosexuality (a sad thought in itself) or because they actually don't understand that there really are macho-man type gay men in the world.Still, I'm impressed with the series as a whole and look forward to reading the rest.
The first 3 books in the series were beautifully narrated. This third book sounds like a joke. The fake twang and drawl is very hard to listen too.
I wonder how much longer House of Night will keep up with this time frame. The time between 'Marked' and 'Betrayed' was one month, another month passed between 'Betrayed' and 'Chosen'. It's been 2 days since the events of 'Chosen' and we're shown that Zoey's friends still haven't forgiven her. In the horse stall, she mutters to herself that all her friends were being so judgemental. Keep the 'Judgemental' part in mind for later.
They're totally shafting her with every conversation starter when Aphrodite stumbles in latched onto Daruis' arm and it's like we're back in anyone of the previous novels all over again. Her tattoo is back and The Twins rip into her instantly with the same things they've repeated over and over for the last 3 books. What's awesome though, about this scene is how Aphrodite takes a seat anyways and throws back some pretty witty remarks without stooping to using words like 'Ho', 'Hag' and 'slut'.
The next few chapters are filler; James Stark is introduced, Stevie Rae returns with her Earth affinity and proclaims herself leader of the Red Fledglings, Nix Assures Aphrodite that she still loves her. Wouldn't you know? Her friends finally forgive her, I'll add to this later.
Things cool down after the highest of all priestess' strolls into school and nullifies Neferet's war plans and shoves her to the side. Stark and Zoey have 'a moment' out on the fields and he dies in her arms. This triggers her emotions and she winds up mourning him like a lover more so than anything else. We get this weird chapter where Damien and Jack fall deeper into their stereotype and the twins do nothing more than the usual 'Aphrodite's a slut and OHHAI CUTE BOI!!!'
It's in this chapter that Aphrodite proves to be more caring towards Zoey than Zoey's own friends. I didn't get many good 'bff vibes' from her group. They seem to be place holders for all the Dark Daughters meetings, but with Zoey being able to call all the elements by herself, I find myself being bored with Shaunee, Erin and Damien’s role in the book. I think I'd find the 'House of Night' series more interesting if Aphrodite, Zoey and Stevie Rae had this tight knit threesome thing going on instead of this forced cardboard cut-out I'm spoon fed by the authors.
'Untamed' marks the 'beginning' of the overall 'story' of the 'House of Night' series as we're quickly introduced to a prophecy, ravens and a Cherokee demi God named Kalona. Personally, I feel that the middle of this book felt a little 'talky' to me and perhaps this is why it took me so long to read. The characters spend a lot of time on a singular experience, whether it be the death of a friend, the reappearance of one or when Aphrodite has a vision. We spend a lot of time gathering the 'Nerd Herd', filling them in and then having them decide to act like things are business as usual so that Neferet wouldn't catch on. Sometimes I feel it'd just be easier to cut out the Twins, Damien and Jack as they just lead to so much 'filler' that just seems so unneeded. That fight would have been a good reason to have them out of the way and safe, but they were quickly written back in with a vision and a half told story. Much of the bulk could have been cut back.
The ending happened in quick succession and wasn't at all that bad. It almost made up for the slowness of the middle chunk of this book. I was ready to haul it in with this series but that ending has honestly made me want to continue with this story. We leave off with a cliff-hanger. Zoey calls the Nun-Grandma-Sitter, Heath and her parents and tells them to get underground just before heading underground herself.

One thing I do like about 'Untamed' is how NONE of the former boyfriends were so quick to forgive Zoey. Sometimes their reactions were a little harsh, but I'm glad that they didn't come back with open arms the second she apologized. It was a nice touch considering a lot of YA novels have the boyfriend coming back into the girls life quite easily, no resistance is met.
On the topic of forgiveness, her friends forgave her way to fast. I know it's 'for their safety' that they weren’t in the 'know', but they were just as misinformed and just as used as the boyfriends were and it leaves me wondering why they were so quick to to leap back on the Zoey band wagon. Granted, Zoey has been spending most of her time with Aphrodite and even at 4 books in, Aphrodite has more character development then Zoey's three bffs. Damien, Shaunee and Erin just seem to be there to fill time when needed. Demons attack? Summon help from Damien to channel air to blow them away. However, when you can control ALL the elements, why do you need your friend’s ability to do the same thing. I rarely see the others use their powers outside of Zoey's circles or whenever Zoey needs them. Aside from Steve Rae's exploring her Earth Powers, the other three just seem to laze around waiting for Zoey to cry 'Avengers Assemble'.

She makes sure that Zoey is bathed, clothed and fed after Starks death while Damien and Jack comfort Starks dog and the twins babble on about another beautiful loss. I'm torn between who would make a better friend, a rapist who's shown more depth and character growth in the past 4 books or 3 stereotypes that are shallow and vapid with each new twist and do nothing more than ass pat Zoey when she does well.
Neferet acts more like a teenager then an adult, no wonder the older vamps encourage the next generation to figure things out on their own. Their leader can't seem to keep it together long enough to make a mature plan. Instead she stoops to scheming behind her students backs.
Boyfriend Count: 0
For a while, I thought Zoey would be adding Stark to that list, but he dies shortly after his arrival and is used against them in the end. Heath shafts Zoey, Erik humiliates Zoey multiple times and no other boys fill the role of boyfriend for the duration of 'Untamed'. Mrs. and Ms. Cast, I applaud you for this decision and how it was handled despite how cruel the boys had seemed, they were hurt and it felt justified.

I just finished reading Untamed by P.C. and Kristin Cast. It takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is the fourth book in the House Of Night series. In this book, Zoey's friends are mad at her because they discover she has been hiding things from them. They were not aware that she was doing it to protect them because they were completely left in the dark. Aphrodite still has visions even though she's been recently turned into a human while healing Stevie Rae. She has visions of Zoey dying and the world ending. Together they must get her group back on speaking terms and stop Neferet from the evil she's planning before it's too late.I've loved this series from the second I read it the first time. It's funny, refreshing, and thrilling all at the same time. This book was one of the saddest of all the series for me. That's kind of one of the biggest reasons I love this series so much. It has a way of making you feel what the characters are feeling. There are some parts that are absolutely suspenseful, and others that are light and funny. There were a few things that I started picking up on that I didn't really like so much. For instance, they seem to have an inconsistency with the element air. I think they should pick one and stick with it. If they want to say wind, they should say wind every time they invoke the element. Same if they choose air. The second problem I have with this series is the constant use of “bullpoopy”. I know this is kind of petty but it just sounds so vulgar. The words she consider cuss words are less vulgar than that.All in all though, I love this series. It's one of my favorite series of all times. I would fully recommend it to anybody who's into this kind of series. Think of it like teenage vampire series meets Harry Potter. It's mostly targeted at the teenage audience, but I think that there are many adults who will enjoy reading this as well. I know I do.
The only thing I hate more than the authors of these books, is my fellow teenage girls, whose reviews tend to look a little like this:

I think this is the best book in the series till now! it has everything! I am dying to see what will happen next to Zoey and her friends!! The Cast team rock!!
Zoey solves one problem and a new one replaces it- again and again. I did like getting to know Aphrodite better - she's a character that I like more and more as the series goes on. The problems don't just continue, however, they increase in scale, to the point of "HOW will they fix this?!" That trend continues in the next books.
The first half of this one was pretty poor. Zoey has become unbearably selfish and irritating- it's almost like she's a completely different character. It's also annoying how the previous books are summarized at the start of every new one- just in case someone randomly starts the series at book four. Aphrodite completely saved the book, though. It was so great to see her actual personality, and she adds so much humour to the book. I think Aphrodite would make a better narrator. The plot was good overall, and it's good to see Erik back in action. It left off on a cliffhanger, so it'll be interesting to see what happens next.
Same as the other house of night books, entertaining, but just ok. I'm a little tired of reading them and not sure if I will read the rest.
Untamed, so far, has been the most action packed book. Expecially twards the end. It's almost hard for me to explain it, without giving anything away, about the book. But I can say, that any reader is in for a lot of war action. From what I know so far, things are going to get crazy and stressful for the main character, Zoey. A lot of new people apear and a lot of old friends and boyfriends come back into the picture. There are a lot of break up's and shake up's in store for this book, so I would convince anyone to read this book. There are twists and turnes threw out the whole story, and some stories get twisted? It is hard for me not to give away the whole book, so I will tell you to read it and find out what happens, and I guarentee that if you start at the begining you won't be able to put any of the books down, after that. I also rate this book as a five star book.
While this is the fourth book to the House of Night, I think the books keep getting better and better. With each new installment to the series, P.C. and Kristin Cast are adding more action, more flair, more drama, and adding more human qualities to these vampyres. I love the way that they put a human life into these books with a vampire twist. In this book, it sucks when Zoey's friends are pissed at her. She has become an undisputed expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a tight-knit group of friends to being an outcast. Meanwhile, Neferet has declared a war on humans after it appears that the People of the Faith have murdered two vampyres. But with Aphrodite's latest visions show a world of completely different from the High Priestess's promises, a world full of violence, hatred, and darkness all because of Zoey's death. Zoey has to make it right with her friends in order to fix things. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes vampire stories.
Still loving these books! Especially the very down to earth, very humanized character!
I liked the introduction of a new antagonist but I didn't like how that just adds another couple of books to the series. I think that this would be best as a shorter series than one of those ten-book-long ones. Interesting read with a twist.
In this installment, Zoey has to juggle her friends' trust against what she thinks is right. In many ways, this book reminded me the most of the Harry Potter series. I don't know how many more books are on tap for this series, but it seems like it should be coming to a head soon.The next round of boyfriend battles is set up for Zoey in this book - as is the assumed role she'll play in the final conflict. If the story Grandma tells is really foreshadowing Zoey's part, then the comparisons to Harry Potter will continue. (Cryptic, I know, but I try not to write spoiler reviews!) I really hope that she can finally let go of Heath. If she's really changed so much, she should be able to quit clinging to him, especially since he's not around!I was kind of frustrated that Zoey (or any of her friends) couldn't see why Neferet was insistent that the cleansing ritual go on as scheduled. That was too obvious for them to miss.At least the sexual aspect of the series has died down a bit. I still think the first book was the most graphic (I'm a prude, I'll admit it). I'd probably let my daughter read the following books. But, gotta start at the beginning, so she'll have to wait a couple more years.
This was my favorite of the House of Night books thus far. Maybe its because we get to step away (mostly) from Zoey's back and forth "I love him", "no but I love him" inner dialogue. However the excitement jolts up a notch or two as the plotline finally seems to advance a little further. "Untamed" takes up where "Chosen" left off. Zoe's friends are all mad at her her. She suddenly has gone from three boyfriends to none (cheers!) and Neferet is doing everything she can to declare a war against humans. Aphrodite is front and center which I enjoyed because I find her character the most interesting of the bunch. She is having more visions that foreshadow some of the big events in the book. And Stevie-Ray and her fledgings may be preparing to announce their existence. Besides a good deal of action, this book benefits from the recent removal of a disgusting character and an even more disgusting and over the top storyline. A new character and potential love interest is introduced in new student Stark, whose back story was very original and interesting. But will his time with Zoey be short-lived? I also have to give "Untamed" kudos for introducing us to nuns who work at the local cat shelter. This group of nuns is very open minded and good people who embrace Zoey and the fledglings and vampyres. This was much needed to put balance into the series. I have thought from the first book that the series seemed very anti-Christian. Its good to know that Zoey and her friends no longer have cause to believe that all Christians are evil or closeminded. On the other side of that token, one of my complaints is also that besides the belief in their Goddess Nix and the new Christian themes that were introduced, the book also weaves (and strongly here) Cherokee beliefs, traditions, and myths into the mix. Wow, thats just a lot of stuff going on at once. They are creating circles for the Goddess, counting on a statue of the Virgin Mary for guarding someone, and burning herbs and doing feather rituals for protection. It makes this group of characters appear to believe in ANYTHING which isn't really a good thing. The book ends with a huge bang and the gang is in a big predicament. While I still find a lot of faults with the inner workings of this series (and I wonder what the Cast's are really trying to get across to the Young Adult market they are appealing to), there is no denying this is an addictive series, and this particular volume offers up more bite than usual.
The relentless round-eyed adolescent level of conversation and romantic involvement in these books has finally got to me. I won't be reading more, at least not for a while, which is too bad because the story line is unique and engaging (though this one is awfully reminiscent of the Harry Potter time line).
This book was more action packed than the previous three. Zoey and her friends are faced with evil (again) but on a much bigger scale. the teens are a little less dramatic and the romantic involvements of Zoey are not really there in this one, but it was another great House of Night book.
Untamed has much the same feel as the previous instalments in this series. Zoey’s ‘good’ friends are still irritating, but Zoey and Aphrodite (enemy-turned-friend) are once again able to save the book from being completely irritating with a bit of spunk and comparatively realistic attitudes. The plot is still secondary to the whole danger at boarding school vibe, with a vampyre-human war seeming imminent, and nasty beasties being called from the deep. This series as a whole hasn’t made a big impression on me, but for what it is, it’s good enough.
This book was a good inbetween book. Chosen was one of my favorites and Untamed led right into it. The end left you hanging but I was able to go right into Hunted.
