About this audiobook
In Debbie Macomber's heart-wrenching novel, two wounded hearts give in to the healing power of love—and learn to trust again.
Letty Ellison left her small town and her high-school sweetheart behind to chase her dreams—but music never worked out. When she returns nine years later, nothing's changed in Red Springs, Wyoming, except for her. Letty's a little more humble, she's a single mom to a beautiful daughter, and she has a secret: she needs surgery for a potentially fatal heart condition. On top of everything, seeing Chase Brown again makes her realize that what she really wants may have been right here all along.
After Letty moved away, Chase poured his hurt and anger into fixing up his family's ranch. Now that she's back, he vows to stay as far away from her as possible, and yet he can't ignore the rush of emotions he feels every time their paths cross. He may be risking heartbreak, but Chase has to face the past to build what he really wants: a future, and a family, with Letty.

Reviews for Denim and Diamonds
57 ratings2 reviews
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This book was written in 1989 (or around there), and WOW does it show. You can see the threads of Macomber's later work, but it's unpolished and paced a little strangely. And to say it's dated is understating the actual content. Apparently, what we found romantic in the 80s is vastly different from today. (The MC is dumber than a bag of hair sometimes, rivaled only by what a giant jerkface the hero is for the first half of the book. Y'know how a kindergartner will like a girl and call her names or trip her or whatever? The hero of this book learned his smooth romance moves from that kindergartner.)
But if you can look at the thing through the lens of the time in which it was created, the things that are fairly shocking to modern standards are...well, not *okay*, per se, but are understandable as anachronism. Set that aside and, like I said, you can see Macomber's latent, budding storytelling talent wrapped up in now-antique tropes.
ABOUT THIS AUDIO IN SPECIFIC:
The reason this is one star instead of two or three is that this particular recording sucks. Like, distractibly so. It's a straight rip from the CD version and hasn't been edited at all, apparently, so not only do you get FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY EIGHT CHAPTERS (!!!), those "chapters" are roughly thirty seconds long, and there's a *pause* between them, most of the time right smack dab in the middle of a sentence, making the cadence jarring and, after the first hour or two, super annoying. They even left in the "this is the end of CD number one. Please insert CD two to continue." message. It's lazy, and I don't know who put this out, but they shouldn't have been allowed to release an audiobook after about 2006.
I can't really recommend this title. Maybe just as a novelty, like a time capsule from the late 1980s romance genre fiction world...but even then, not *this* version, due to the laziness of the audio producers. I'd suggest reading the ebook or physical book instead, and only if you're a really dedicated Macomber stan. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In Macomber’s romance novel, rancher Chase Brown is a homegrown Wyoming man who has always loved Letty Ellison. Nine years ago, Letty fled Wyoming in search of life away from cattle and ranches. Now she’s home again with her dreams destroyed and a 5-year-old daughter to boot. Letty has learned the hard way that all that glitters is not gold but now must face the big question: Is it too late to find happiness?A heartfelt journey to true love.
