The funniest love story of the year, Call Me Irresistible is the book Susan Elizabeth Phillips fans have been craving. The beloved New York Times bestselling author returns with a delightfully sassy, sexy, and downright irresistible tale of true love Texas style.

Ted Beaudine, one of Phillips’s most charming characters (the adolescent heartbreaker from her hilarious debut, Fancy Pants, and the new college graduate from Lady Be Good) is now all grown up and in a heap of romantic trouble all his own—in a perfectly marvelous contemporary romance that fans of Emily Giffin, Kristen Hannah, and Elin Hilderbrand will simply adore.

Another good romance story by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. SEP creates the most amazing sassy heroines and brooding, sexy heroes.

Well, this book has been a longtime fave of mine, probably since I was about 18 years old. This re-read though was so frustrating to me, I can’t believe how many issues I overlooked way back then.

There are plot points that I feel were super frustrating, and it impacted my view of Meg and how she handled things. I despise a weak heroine, and Meg was so fierce at many moments and then weakly out of character. It was so frustrating, and then the resolution at the end was simply unnecessarily difficult.

This book was what made me fall in love with the enemies to lovers trope, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I really really enjoyed this book, I actually love all of her stories. Sassy woman, kind hearted but misguided towns folk and a whole lot of warmth. Truly awesome characters a must read ❤️

I always enjoy SEP's novels and this story is no exception. I was only slighly disappointed that the book was not about Lucy Jorik (as was hinted) but about her compatriot and other arc'ing character, Meg Koranda. I suspect that SEP was getting a good chortle out of teasing her readers with the "mystery" of who the real main character really was. Lucy does make some appearances and it's promised that she'll be along in the next book. One of the outstanding characteristics of books by SEP is her snappy, "gee-I-wish-I'd-said-that", dialogue. I much enjoy her humorous, spot-on repartee she creates between her characters. And it is always good fun to get reacquinted with those characters that lived in prior books. There are quite a few arc'ing characters from at least four other SEP books this time around that will test your memory. All in all, for the genre, this book was a great read about wrong love, right love, personal redemption, and a lesson in small-town politics. There is never a doubt as to who the hero and heroine are in this familiar path down the romance highway, but SEP ensures that you have a good time getting there. My special thanks to HarperCollins who so generously sent an Early Reader's copy of the book - not a ARC, but a brand, spanking new hardback book. WOW, such a treat.

Meg is daughter of Hollywood elite parents (from SEP's Glitter Baby) and is considered to be a spoiled rich girl. She carries no responsibilities and lives her life jumping from one exotic locale to the next for fun. (Think Nepal, not Monaco.) Her best friend, Lucy, a former president's daughter, is about to marry Ted Beaudine from Wynette, Texas, the local Golden Boy and PGA champ. When Meg arrives in Wynette to stand up at Lucy's wedding she makes a horrible discovery: Lucy is marrying the wrong man! With one look, Meg believes with all her heart that Lucy is not marrying the right man for her. Chaos ensues with Meg left to take all the blame. Now she's stuck in Wynette - a town that hates her - and since her parents have decided to cut her off financially, she's got some serious bucking up to do. The worst part? Ted Beaudine has made it his life's mission to make her miserable...and he looks so good doing it.I loved Meg. Plucky and full of sass, her life is looking pretty lousy but she doesn't let it drag her down. She's attracted to Ted, yes, but when she looks at him she sees a pretty unhappy man instead of the town hero (and mayor). That makes her want to help but only a little bit since he pretty much hates her. Her family and friends cut her off from any help to make her grow up and grow some resources of her own and she does; she takes menial jobs but makes the most of them and even starts crafting her own jewelry line. The hardest part about living in Wynette for Meg really is maintaining her dignity in the face of those catty women who are just trying to protect what's theirs: Ted.Ted was a hard read. He's a popular man who always knows the right thing to say or do but he's still an introvert. He doesn't emote, even with Meg, and at the beginning of the book, I thought he was pretty awful. He took his frustration and pain from being jilted out on Meg just like everyone else when it wasn't her fault. Bringing Meg down many pegs made him a bit too happy for my taste. I liked how the reader's understanding of Ted mirrored his own; Ted's self-awareness needed some time to kick in. SEP's next book sounds like it'll be about Lucy, the runaway bride. I can't wait to see what happened to her after she fled Wynette.

I LOVED this book, it was my second Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Meg travels to her best friend, Lucy's, wedding. Once there she realizes Lucy's groom, Ted, is all wrong for Meg and she would never be happy with him. She talks to Lucy about this, and Lucy has been having the same thoughts. Lucy leaves Ted at the altar, and everyone in town is upset with Meg for ruining things between Lucy and their town hero, Ted. Meg is now stuck in town, since her parents have cut her off. Eventually Meg finds a job and she and Ted start a relationship. Meg falls in love with Ted, who she believes may be falling for her, but she soon believes Ted to be emotionless and incapable of feeling what she feels.

Blurb: Screw up Meg Koranda breaks up her best friend's wedding, and must survive living in the town where the erstwhile groom is the Golden Boy.Why I chose this title: I'm a fan of SEP so I requested it, but it was the LTER algorithm that chose meReview: When I finished this book, I felt very torn. I soon realized it was because the story itself seems to be torn in two directions. Does it want to be a romance, or does it want to be women's fiction with a strong romantic element? I'm going to try and not give away turning points in the story for those who don't want to be spoiled. The story opens with Meg facilitating the break up of her best friend, Lucy Jorvik and Lucy's fiance, Ted Beaudine. All three of these characters are the children of previous sets of SEP's heroes and heroines. In that respect, SEP hits the craving of romance fans to see how well their favorite characters are doing in their lives, ie. getting a glimpse into the "happily ever after" (HEA). However, this story struck me much more as being Meg's story rather than Meg's and Ted's. Part of this is because we get to see into the head of what seems to be every character, *but* Ted until after what seemed to be the crisis point in his romantic relationship with Meg. We see how he changes, or doesn't, through the filter of Meg and the other characters. With the opening premise of the story to really work in the context of this being a romance, I really needed to *see* how Ted emotionally dealt with being dumped at the altar. I think I would have liked this book more if the HEA didn't give off the feeling of being shoehorned into the story.Final thought: Not one of SEP's better books, but satisfying with her trademark sense of humor.

A high-profile wedding, second thoughts, a friend to confirm these second thoughts....all these provided the incentive to call off the wedding. But would the bride's friend, Meg, be sorry she even mentioned to Lucy that perhaps she shouldn't marry Ted especially in a town where the groom was the mayor and could do any number of things to make things difficult for Meg?And what a rough time Meg did have...Ted was brutally cruel to her; he never showed that side of him to the citizens of the town. Ted was everywhere Meg was. He knew she didn't have any money to leave town, and he also made sure no one would hire her. She was miserable...no food, no place to stay, and no one to help her. Meg was so happy she saw what Ted was really like and that her friend didn't marry him.Since Meg couldn't leave and remained in the small Texas town, she decided to make some mischief of her own which got all the aristocratic Texas ladies in an uproar. But would her decisions backfire on her, make things better, of cause a never-ending pain in her heart? You will love the book...a sensual storyline, and let's not forget wealth, jealousy, and greed. The characters are easy to love and easy to hate. Phillips has authored another winner!!!Giving it a BIG TEXAS 5/5....LOVED IT.

I have so many mixed feeling about this book. Books from Susan Elizabeth Phillips are usually hit or miss for me. And surprisingly, I really enjoyed this one. Still, I have some issues.

Meg arrives to Wynette for the wedding of her best friend Lucy and quickly discovers that Mr Perfect is totally unsuitable for Lucy. When the bride escapes from the altar, Meg becomes the most hated person in the town that she can not leave because of lack of money. Unexpectedly, she begins to get along better with the would-be groom, Tad. They need to cooperate to convince a water-sewage installation tycoon to invest in an ecological golf course that will save the economic situation of the town.

I really like the main characters, Meg and Tad. Sometimes the characters in the SEP novels are a bit silly and naive, which irritates me. Meg is able to withstand this. Unfortunately, I am not able to discover the essence of feelings between her and Tad. At some point Meg states that she fell in love with Tad and I can not understand why and when. I think I'm missing some feelings-development and relationship-building. Everything is happening too fast, out of nowhere.

Nevertheless, I really like the story and it is definitely one of the better SEP books.

Ms. Phillips has done it again. Ted, Lucy and the rest of Wynette Texas came to life for me. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. The story is believable and fun. Thank you for another fun read!

I hesitate giving this audiobook a 2 star and really deserves a one. It was silly and hard for me to get through as no real story or plot. I do not think I could have managed to get through it if reading; however, on a long trip it passed the time; however, would not recommend.

While I was initally disappointed with the lack of hero POV in this book, I did stay up until 2 am reading it last night, so obviously I couldn't put it down. It's not my favorite book by this author by a longshot, but it's still a 5 because many of her books rate way above a 5 as far as I'm concerned.

I loved Meg, the heroine, but really wish we could have learned more of what Ted was thinking throughout the book. He was a very unsympathetic hero in the first half to the point where I almost quit reading.

Anyway, all in all, it was a great read.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed the book quite a bit, but had no emotional connection to this story. I loved Meg... just didn't totally fall in love with the story.

I felt at times that all the ganging up and how easily all is forgiven to be a bit hard to empathize with.

I read it in one day, so it wasn't that it was not a fun read, but just not one of my favorite SEP books.

There was a lot about this book that I enjoyed. SEP never fails to engage my emotions or pull me into her stories. I was entertained and exhilarated. But I was also disappointed. A lot about the actions of both main characters didn't make sense, in context of the story and out of it. Plus, SEP really loves to humiliate her heroines, and that can be frustrating.

This has been on my tbr for over a year and I wonder why I've not read it sooner. What a delight. I loved the small town craziness and depth in the cast of characters. Fantastic story telling plus we revisited with a few old favourites. An absolute gem and I rather adored Meg and Ted.

I read this on a whim as it was one of the top books in the running vote for the romance genre for 2011. I've never read Susan Elizabeth Phillips and found her quite easy to read. I was in the mood for light-hearted and/or humorous - this fit the bill.

A brand of romance that owes more to character exploration and small town hi-jinx than sexual details or contrived thrills, I enjoyed seeing the heirs to Phillips's romance dynasty living happily-ever-after.

I have always loved Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books, so when I was able to review this one I was very excited. And I was not disappointed.Meg and Lucy are good friends, and Lucy is about to get married. Meg doesn’t believe her best friend’s wedding is the best match, and decides to do something about it. All the townsfolk love the couple, and don’t hesitate to turn on Meg when she succeeds in her plan.I enjoyed the book, but I had a difficult time at the start. Lucy is such a lovable character, and of course Ted is the typical wonderful groom, so how could I want Meg to succeed? Plus, I didn’t think Meg was painted by the author as a very likeable protagonist at first. As I continued to read and the story unfolded, I was able to set aside my reservations and truly enjoy the book.Another thumbs up for Susan Elizabeth Phillips!

At face value this is your run of the mill romance/chic lit novel. Girl meets boy, they hate each other, but find themselves drawn to each other anyway...then oh my, gasp gasp, they fall in love and ride off in to the sunset. That said I did not expect anything different. It is one of the reasons I pick up a Susan Elizabeth Philips novel. Sometimes I just need a little light relief and enjoyment and Susan Elizabeth Philips is one of the authors that I can rely on to just that. An obvious, but entertaining and fun read.
