About this audiobook

The bestselling, award-winning author of The Midnight Library offers his funniest, most devastating dark comedy yet, a “silly, sad, suspenseful, and soulful” (Philadelphia Inquirer) novel that’s “full of heart” (Entertainment Weekly).

When an extra-terrestrial visitor arrives on Earth, his first impressions of the human species are less than positive. Taking the form of Professor Andrew Martin, a prominent mathematician at Cambridge University, the visitor is eager to complete the gruesome task assigned him and hurry home to his own utopian planet, where everyone is omniscient and immortal.

He is disgusted by the way humans look, what they eat, their capacity for murder and war, and is equally baffled by the concepts of love and family. But as time goes on, he starts to realize there may be more to this strange species than he had thought. Disguised as Martin, he drinks wine, reads poetry, develops an ear for rock music, and a taste for peanut butter. Slowly, unexpectedly, he forges bonds with Martin’s family. He begins to see hope and beauty in the humans’ imperfection, and begins to question the very mission that brought him there.

Praised by The New York Times as a “novelist of great seriousness and talent,” author Matt Haig delivers an unlikely story about human nature and the joy found in the messiness of life on Earth. The Humans is a funny, compulsively readable tale that playfully and movingly explores the ultimate subject—ourselves.

Wonderful book. There is no suspence but the simple beautiful words describing the mundane life gets you to stay with the book. As it is a small book, I would urge anyone in midlife crisis to read it. It would give a feel good perspective.

    ? ????? ???? ??? ?? ???? ???? ???? ???? ?? ???? ????, ??? ?? ???? ??? ??? ???????? ??? ???? ????? ?? ????? ????.

Sometimes exactly the right book finds us at exactly the right time.

??? ?????? was the book I didn't know I needed to read. I loved it so much!

I laughed out loud. I paused and pondered and stepped back and thought, ???, ????.

I bought the ebook on sale ages ago. Then I promptly didn't read it, allowing it to languish in the weird space of my Kindle that I don't understand but somehow holds all the other ebooks I haven't read.

I saw reviews that said ??? ?????? contained too much math (it doesn't), and genre classifications calling it sci-fi (which it is but isn't and it doesn't even matter).

    ????? ?? ???? ??? ????? ?? ???????. ??? ????? ?? ?????? ?????.

When I saw ??? ?????? available in audio here on Scribd, I decided to go that route. I'm placing it in the top 5 of audiobooks I've ever listened to.

Then I wanted a hardcover copy for my shelf. Badly. But no one had it! Only paperback.

I told my husband. He went online and found a copy on a Goodwill site in Seattle. Now that copy is on my shelf, and my husband gets superhero status.

And there you have it, not that you asked for this story, but you got it anyway.

This book is one of the most perfect books I’ve ever read. Thoughtful, poignant, and beautiful. The writer writes with an enlightened wit about the complexities of being a human through the eyes of a non human; with such grand ease that I could believe he too may be an alien. Thank you for this excellent read. I will remember it forever. Home is where I wanna be, but I guess I’m already there <3

I enjoyed this a lot. What it means to be human. And now I need to read some Emily Dickinson ?

While not the most realistic, it had enough positive messages and just enough of a cohesive plot to make it worth the listen.

Matt Haig is slowly starting to become one of my favorite authors. I already loved The Midnight Library and now I loved The Humans almost as much! This extraterrestrial-come-to-Earth story was funny, emotional, and heart-warming all at the same time. Side note: I loved the voice actor they hired for the audiobook reading of this novel as well. His delivery and portrayal of the main character was spot-on.
