About this audiobook

He woke deep within the ground, and the first sensation he felt was hunger. An overwhelming hunger for blood that demanded satisfaction. But as he hunted the dark streets of Paris for prey, a voice called to him, soothing, calming, giving him the strength to control his craving.

Francesca Del Ponce was a healer, a woman who radiated goodness as powerfully as the sun did light. But surely his obsession with her would turn him as his twin brother had turned, leaving the world with two monsters instead of one.

I really enjoyed this one. Not as short as the one before, but again different to the repetitive storylines that were in the first five books. This time the female was a Carpathian who had hidden from their world for centuries, thinking she was rejected by her mate, Gabriel. One of the infamous twins.

Turns out, she wasn't rejected at all, just that Gabriel just never knew she existed. But he does now. :D

Really good story, excellent characters that I'm hoping trail into the next book. I'd love to read more about Skylar and Lucian, who along with Gabriel, was a particular favourite of mine. I loved Lucian's part in this story, it was so cleverly done, although I did suspect it early on.

The only problem I had with this book was that there was bad continuity. One minute Santino's wife was called Braisilia and the next she was Drusilla and back again. It got a little confusing. When the change first happened, I had to do a double take to see if they were two different characters but they're not.

I love this story! It is my second favorite in the series so far.

I am not fond of the voice though - the male voices haven't been great but this is probably my least favorite reader.

This is the third read and the book is still very much interesting as it was in the first. The characters are great and still found each part more exciting.
Additionally, Gabriel and Francesca make a great couple, and even though Gabriel has all the alpha controlling Carpathian tendencies that this series is known for he shows care and love towards Francesca and Skyler. The plot is good and makes for a great read. The book is amazing.

This is definitely one of the best books in the series. The only complaint is that, as usual, the female lifemate seems kind of dense and irrational at times. But her age and power are gratifying, and her evolution as a character is interesting. Gabriel is also a very deep and well-fleshed out character, and his sorrow is heartbreaking to witness. Their rescue of Skyler, who becomes an important character, is fantastic. This book is important for the series story arc, and simply isn't one to miss. This is Gabriel and Francesca's story.

Dark Legend is book #8 in Ms. Feehan’s Dark (Carpathian) series. Gabriel and Lucian (twins) were both known as great warriors to the Carpathian Race. We quickly learn through Gabriel, that Lucian, having already succumbed to the darkness (now vampire), and Gabriel (still without a healing lifemate), felt like he was quickly succumbing to the same fate. His only solution was to bind his brother to him and remain under the earth indefinitely in an ancient slumber. Thought to be long dead, Gabriel unexplainably awakens from his resting place. As he rises, he also senses that Lucian (his twin that he has forcibly locked in a restful sleep) is also rising. As Gabriel gets used to the world today (in Paris), he is starving, and fears his own darkness still growing inside. A beautiful gentle human woman sees his struggle to walk, his disorientation, and realizes that he is so obviously starving that she aids him, and brings him to her home for nourishment. When she touches him, his soul is calmed. She is obviously a healer. She is also obviously his lifemate.Once she brings him home, he warns her that the nourishment he needs will be directly from her. Instead of screaming in panic, she calmly shows him her neck and says the words of their Carpathian people. Despite all evidence of her humanity, Gabriel realizes she is one of them. When he tells her she is his lifemate, her response is one of acknowledgement, but not of acceptance. All the while, Lucian, his twin (who is connected to him in mind and spirit, still) taunts him.The building romance between Gabriel and Francesca is definitely noteworthy. I found that throughout the book my heart yearned for poor Francesca and Gabe…and also Lucian. The little girl introduced in the book is a treat and will give you a laugh out loud moment about three quarters through.Give this read four out of five stars.

My very favorite Dark/Carpatians novel is "Dark Desire" which is the first one I read. Several more of these novels later, this one "Dark Legend" ties for 2nd favorite with "Dark Fire". This one made me laugh, cry, and swoon. Now that's good writing! I have never cried reading one of Feehan's Carpathians novels before, a testament to how much she made me feel and care for the characters. Usually I don't like to read things with children in them, but I was able to manage just fine due to my love for Gabriel and Francesca. Gabriel, more than any other Carpathian male, delighted me - he was crafty and conniving, he felt guilt and worry, he was brave and self-sacrificing, he was tragic, and he was sexy (of course)!

I know that a lot of people have a hard time getting past the first few books in this series. They were written 11 to 12 years ago and what was acceptable and expect then is not necessarily the same today. These books can be addictive though just as any author with a long running series can be. This is the first book about the Daratraznoff twins. They have fought vampires and invading armies protecting their people and the human race all their lives. They have known only bleak lives lived in a world of dark and shades of gray. This is Gabriel's story. He bumps into his lifemate as he is trying to find a way to feed without killing his prey. Francesca has thought that Gabriel has been dead all the longs years since he disappeared. When they come together they have to find a way to be together and overcome the hurt feelings that Francesca has about being left alone for so long. Add to this a severely abused psychic female child and the game is on. Gabriel must find his twin and find a way to kill him as well as protect his lifemate and the child. While Dark Fire had some undertones of darkness to the plot this story builds on that. These books become more dark and the plots breaking into multiple layers. This is a wonderful book but it maybe hard for some readers to get through because of what was done to Skyler, the child. I definitely recommend this book to those that can see past the first few of this series as the stories and story only get better as you go through the series.

Evading vampires, Carpathians and human hunters for so many centuries, Francesca Del Ponce was amazed that the one male she wanted to avoid the most walked out of the darkness and into her arms. Hunger was such a strong feeling as Gabriel emerged from his disturbed rest only to find one of the most healing souls he had ever run across. As soon as Francesca realized who was with her, her lifemate, she knew what would happen, offering her life for his seemed her only option to save him, and herself. The strength of these two ancients should be enough to defeat any enemy, but could either of them destroy Gabriel’s twin brother, Lucian, the most powerful of all the hunters known to the Carpathians, and save the human girl that had captured all three of their attentions.Book 8 ….. The legend come to life, we have heard a couple of stories about these powerful twins in several other books, it is wonderful to finally meet them. It is amazing how much more gentle Gabriel is, considering where he has been for nearly 2 centuries. It is also fun to watch him learn about ‘contraptions’ and the computer. I loved the ending, expected it, but still absolutely loved it (no spoiler here). I liked the references to Gregori, Aidan and Julian, especially the memory of Julian’s dark touch, it really brings the books together. The depth of the characters are so great because of the continuing line, it makes it hard to recommend as a stand alone story, but a wonderful paranormal series.

Christine Feehan's Dark Legend is the 8th book in her "Dark Carpathians" series, and I must tell you that the books just get better and better as I continue. In this book we delve further into the legendary twin Carpathian hunters Gabriel and Lucian. The last couple of books have "whispered" to us of them, but as this is Gabriel's story, we learn a lot about him and his brother here. This is also the story of Francesca Del Ponce, Gabriel's amazing lifemate. For two thousand years Gabriel and Lucian hunted the undead, endlessly sacrificing their souls for the safety of Carpathians and humans alike. Knowing the cost of so many killings, they make a pact of honor, that if one turns vampire, the other will hunt and destroy him. They each believe that no other than their twin could defeat them in battle. Seduced by the dark power of taking lives, Lucian succumbs and becomes the undead, and for hundreds of years Gabriel has been forced to do the unthinkable: to hunt his own brother. At the beginning of this book, Gabriel awakens after being within the ground for over a century. He never dreamed that his brother, who was the strongest of all Carpathians, could turn vampire, but he was determined to keep his promise to destroy him before he can ruin more innocent lives. Gabriel knows that in battle he is not Lucian's equal, but he did manage to trick him and imprison them both deep underground for over a hundred years. But something woke him suddenly and Gabriel knew that Lucian was free. All Gabriel felt, though, was a relentless hunger, an overwhelming desire for blood that demanded satisfaction. Before he could find suitable prey, he heard a voice calling to him, soothing, calming, and offering him strength to control his craving. Francesca Del Ponce was a Carpathian healer who had dedicated her life to good and helping those less fortunate. One of the few females who escaped the bloodletting many years ago, she had managed to live a human life for hundreds of years. Francesca had separated herself from all other Carpathians and resigned herself to living alone. She knew that she had a lifemate out there because she had seen him, but he had turned away from her without saying a word. That man was Gabriel. Gabriel had no idea that he had caused so much anguish to his lifemate and he was horrified when he found out the truth. Still, he could not be denied and claimed Francesca as his own. For the first time in centuries he could see colors and feel emotions - feel fear... He was suddenly aware that by binding Francesca to him, he had made her a target for his twin, Lucian, who was always watching, waiting for the moment to strike... This book was excellent! I love the stories she writes with strong females in them. Although I know every female holds a certain power over her lifemate, it's just more fun for me when they are so evenly matched. I cannot wait to pick up the next book in this series!

Ancient Carpathian Gabriel Daratrazanoff wakes up from his resting place to find modern day Paris. Worse, his twin has risen too and is out hunting prey in the city. It is up to Gabriel to bring justice to Lucian.Picking him up and helping him is a mysterious girl named Francesca Del Ponce. She has Carpathian symbols in her house, she has an underground chamber but she walks in the day. One thing he knows, she is his life mate and he will not let her go...Another element in the story is the battered and sexually abused child, Skyler Rose. Francesca knew she had to adopt the poor child and Gabriel clears the way to her. Meanwhile Lucian kills all of Skyler's tormentors. For what reason, the couple does not know.Of course, vampires haunt the wild and sinful streets of Paris. Gabriel must hunt them and Lucian.Good book. More details that I like. It is better than Dark Gold.
