About this audiobook

The New York Times bestselling author whose Tracers series has been called “compelling,” “mesmerizing,” and “knock-your-socks-off” has a new forensic thriller sure to please fans of Tami Hoag and Karen Robards.

Police detective Andrea Finch is a rising star in her department until a split-second decision derails her career. Disgraced and disillusioned, she’s on leave from her job when she gets an urgent call from her younger brother. She’d prefer to ignore his latest plea for cash, but this time instinct tells her something is very wrong. Andrea’s search for answers takes her to a dusty Texas border town where danger lurks in plain sight and nothing is quite what it seems.

FBI agent Jon North is working undercover in west Texas, investigating an unsolved murder that may be linked to a terrorist plot. But when the evidence points to Andrea’s brother, Jon finds that persuading the stubborn cop to help will be harder than cracking his toughest case.

Andrea must find a way to do what’s right while protecting her only sibling. As the clock ticks down, Andrea and Jon race to confront a heartless killer who will stop at nothing to deliver a final, terrifying message.

I enjoyed this book - much more emphasis put on the mystery elements of the story, than the romance. That said, there was a lot of ink dedicated to analyzing the characters' worldviews & feelings. By less romance, I mean it was not mushy or primarily written as a vehicle for love scenes or happily ever afters.

This is the first book I've read by Laura Griffin, and I wasn't disappointed. The main characters are an FBI agent and an Austin, Texas police detective who find themselves investigating the same case for different reasons. Neither have had successful relationships but find themselves drawn together by their emotional reaction to each other as well as the emotions surrounding their case. Both characters are believable and the mystery is well written and interesting. Nothing was extremely unique about the book, but it was a solid, well-written story.

ardcover (edit)review Here is the issue with romantic/suspense writers who try to go legit so to speak -- I want sex. I expect sex. I am reading your book for sex and honestly, the suspense is secondary. Some call this "romance" because it makes them feel more comfortable or clean, but it is really sex/suspense. There are way too many mystery and thriller writers with only a very small number who reign supreme. I say, continue to reign supreme in your genre, romantic (sex)/suspense. Griffin, who I have previously read with fond recollection, starts out strong but loses steam and thus Far Gone becomes one of many generic stories by nameless authors. I want a decent story and some hot attraction and witty dialogue between fairly attractive characters who can't keep their clothes on with a fair amount of detail past no more than page 50. Page 30 is better. Provided by publisher

I hadn't read a book by Laura Griffin before, and I found that I really enjoyed Far Gone. After reading this book, I had to wonder why I hadn't tried this author before because she wrote a great thriller. Andrea is very well developed in the book especially since she is the character that grows the most. The book begins with action that leads to Andrea's career as a police detective being threatened, and this suspension leads Andrea into the middle of an investigation that hits close to home. The book is full of twists and turns, but it is the connection between Andrea and Jon that really made the book for me. Jon helps Andrea see that she needs to fight for the career she loves, and this case allows her to really make a difference. Overall Far Gone proved to be a great read, and I look forward to reading this author again.Received a copy of Far Gone through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book to review. I probably given this book four stars but, the copy I received was difficult to read. Punctuation was all messed up and it was difficult to follow the conversations. Found the romance part of the novel a bit distracting. The plot was good and would read other books by this author.

Terrorism has infested our lives, both domestic and foreign, and so it invades fiction as well. Here it is the domestic version, home grown and doing its' best to confuse those tasked with hunting it by pretending to be foreign. But not everybody is fooled. Unfortunately for him, our hero has more on his plate than a bad man. He also has a local soon to be ex-cop, interfering with his investigation because she's trying to help her little brother, who has become entangled with the terrorist group. She ticks everything on his list for a happy ever after, something neither is looking for. In this fine fictional world, the bad guy is caught, the hero is vindicated, the heroine gets to keep her job and her new man, and the brother moves on with his life. A good, quick read I enjoyed.

This book took a great deal of time to develop the plot, characters, and to provide the action of the story. The story is part of a series about the main character, I believe, and perhaps therefore is more enjoyable to those who have read of the heroine’s earlier activities. The plot reached a conclusion that was not unexpected or a surprise after providing lots of detail. In short, I found the book to be too long, tedious, and therefore way too much work for an enjoyable read. For every page that advanced the plot, flying by, there were two that were loaded with extraneous details that slowed the action, unnecessarily complicated it, and simply served to increase the word count. Even though it is not my kind of story, I want to thank the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the chance to learn about the book.

Andrea Finch is a police detective on leave after an incident has landed her in questionable territory. Even though she should have time on her hands, she needs to keep her younger brother out of trouble. When he asks for money, she knows something is up, and she's not sure what kind of trouble he may be getting himself into. Andrea ends up in the middle of an undercover FBI investigation intertwining an unsolved murder, a disarming FBI agent, and a secretive younger brother. Can Andrea keep herself out of trouble and help unravel this mystery at the same time?I loved Far Gone and honestly, I think every story Ms. Griffin writes gets better and better! I was completely engrossed from page one, clear through to the very last page. I didn't want it to end! Ms. Griffin makes the story complete with precise detail that wraps the story up with finesse. The romantic anticipation along with the suspense, will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning. I adored Jon North! He was not only a tough FBI cookie, but unknowingly to him, a romantic hero too. The teamwork between the hero and heroine meshed perfectly, along with some added sexual tension. Again, I totally loved it! Ms. Griffin is a master in the romantic suspense genre and it doesn't get any better! Far Gone is not only a Must Read, but a Keeper too! Bravo!

Far GoneLaura GriffinDistraught after killing a young suspect in an unavoidable shooting incident, Austin detective Andrea Finch decides to take her mind off her own problems by following her younger, wayward brother to a nowhere south Texas town and find out why he’s once again dropped out of school and into trouble only to find herself in the middle of an FBI homegrown terror investigation that her brother’s smack in the middle of. She decides to fight with instead of against the sexy agent who’s on the case. She’s convinced her brother’s an innocent in all this but whether the agent believes her or not is the big question. Special Agent Jon North’s been on this seemingly hopeless case long enough to know he better put up or he’ll get shut down when a beautiful lady cop shows up with a capital T for trouble written all over her. When it becomes obvious that the trouble’s both personal and professional for him Jon’s more than interested and just a bit afraid too.As they follow the trail of dead bodies, dead ended leads and radical clandestine suspects they’re also fighting a loosing battle against their powerful desire for each other and wondering where it will lead.Laura Griffin’s newest and first ever hard cover release is an impressive piece of romantic suspense, a genre that she’s an expert storyteller in and a go-to, must read author for me personally. This edge of your seat page-turner is part crime drama part provocative romance and had me holding my breath from the first chilling page to the last. Her meticulous attention to detail is evident in every shell casing description and every evidentiary summation that she expertly showcases with her expressive and visual narrative while her in your face cop speak dialogue tells her unforgettable story. Her characters all rock especially her relationship phobic, realistic hero and heroine. Be prepared for heart palpitations and a racing pulse as you read this fantastic novel. Fans of Lisa Gardner, Lisa Jackson, Nelson Demille and Michael Connelly will love Laura’s work.

This was a great quick and fun 3 star read Austin Police detective Andrea Finch is on administration leave for the off duty shooting of a freckle faced teenager weilding a gun at a fast food joint. While on leave she gets a call from her computer savy and smart but troubled younger brother Gavin who has droped out of college and needs to borrow some money. This sets off alarm bells for her and when she tries to find out what's going on with him and where he is living, she wonders if her brother is getting a little to close to an old friend with a shady past. This sets her off on a collision course with the very attractive FBI agent Jon North who works Homeland Security and has his own interst in her little brother and his friends. Jon is working undercover trying to find out about and hopefully bust the terrorist group who may also be involved in a murder from long ago. Jon finds out her brother is involved and wants to bring him in but Andie needs to find him before the FBI does so that she can protect him as she has always done. Andrea and Jon dance around each other, while the chemistry builds, neither trusts the other one until they begin to realize they just might need to work together on this to save her brother and innocent lives. While both are trying to figure out what is going on with her brother and his friend and suspected terrorist Shay, the romance between the two blossoms. Andrea is a smart, capable and strong woman who can handle herself with and without a gun which makes for some fun and interesting reading. Jon is very alpha male and a macho type of guy. I didn't care much for him at first, it took me awhile to warm up to him. I recieved this e-book from Net galley

From the very first Laura Griffin book I read she quickly became one of my favorite authors. She always weaves a believable suspense story with just the right amount of romance and Far Gone is no exception. What's awesome about this book is that it's a different kind of mystery. This time we know up front who the bad guys is and we get to follow along with Andrea and Joe as they unravel the trouble that Andrea's brother is in and connect all the dots in the bigger picture. Another fun part of reading Far Gone is that characters from the Tracers series make cameos in the book just as characters from Laura's other books make cameos in the Tracers books. It's such a treat when I recognize someone from another book that I loved. I recommend Far Gone for anyone who loves suspense thrillers with a hint of romance.

Far Gone is a crime fiction novel that follows FBI agent Jon North and police detective Andrea Finch in their attempt to find connections between a series of bank robberies, bombings, and Andrea's younger brother. Although there are references to the Texas setting, as well as a blossoming romance between Jon and Andrea, the focus of the book is clearly on the action of the plot. The book is entertaining, but not memorable - good to pass the time on a long flight or a day at the beach.
