About this audiobook
A heartwarming tale of courage and warmth, set against the backdrop of the second world war, about a cat who survives against the odds.
"Something's up. Something big too, very big. At school, in the village, whoever you meet, it's all anyone talks about. It's like a sudden curse has come down on us all. It makes me wonder if we'll ever see the sun again."
It's 1943, and Lily Tregenze lives on a farm, in the idyllic seaside village of Slapton. Apart from her father being away, and the 'townie' evacuees at school, her life is scarcely touched by the war. Until one day, Lily and her family, along with 3000 other villagers, are told to move out of their homes – lock, stock and barrel.
Soon, the whole area is out of bounds, as the Allied forces practise their landings for D-day, preparing to invade France. But Tips, Lily's adored cat, has other ideas – barbed wire and keep-out signs mean nothing to her, nor does the danger of guns and bombs. Frantic to find her, Lily makes friends with two young American soldiers, who promise to help her. But will she ever see her cat again? Lily decides to cross the wire into the danger zone to look for Tips herself…
Now, many years later, as Michael is reading his Grandma Lily's diary, he learns about The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips – and wonders how one adventurous cat could still affect their lives sixty years later.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a story about a cat in the Second World War and the evacuation of an area of England during that time. While it is written for children, it is a lovely book and worth a read for grown ups too.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5When a little girl gets evacuated from her home her cat, Adoulphus Tips, ventures back into the danger zone where her home once was. She determindly followed the cat in a daring attempt to rescue him. With the ear-splitting bombs and screams of death right beside her, will she ever get out alive? Will she save Adoulphs Tips?????
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a lovely, charming story of a young girl and the adjustments she had to make during a particular time during WWII. Lily, her mother and grandfather have to tend to their farm without the help of her father, who joined the British Army. It is difficult having a number of unfamiliar London children as part of their community. Then there is the influx of American soldiers in their small town. Lily must navigate these unsure and scary times, but she knows that she always has her faithful cat Tips with her. The characters are all down to earth individuals, likable and ones you come to care about. It is not overly sentimental but will bring tears to your eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed Lily's tale and would definitely recommend to anyone needing a good historical fiction novel for a school assignment.
