About this audiobook

The complete series of Father Christmas letters written by JRR Tolkien for his own children between 1920 and 1943.

Can you imagine writing to Father Christmas and actually getting a reply? Every year, the children of J.R.R. Tolkien would write to Father Christmas, and the letters they received told wonderful stories of his adventures at the North Pole. These humorous tales are brought to life by Derek Jacobi as Father Christmas, John Moffatt as Polar Bear, and Christian Rodska as Ilbereth the Elf, complete with specially composed music.

This is the most charming book! Letters from Tolkien as Father Christmas to his four children. Simply delightful! I also found this on my library website as an ebook, so I read them together. The images of the original letters, plus Tolkien's artwork were definitely a labor of love.

I gave this one just a 4 star rating because the songs in between the letters were pretty annoying (imagine 5 times playing for 30 seconds in just one chapter). Although, I love the idea of Tolkien writing Christmas letters to his grown up children. P.S: Thankies Kate for recommendation!♡

Great book for an afternoon Christmas read or listen. Really amazing that the letters started 100 years ago in 1920. Very interesting as it moves into the 20s and 40s during the war.

Sweet read for Christmas. I listened while wrapping gifts. I love T’s creativity in adding characters to Santa’s workshop.

I quite liked it. Not my first choice of a book though.

It brings some christmas joy and miracles into the life by listening to this. However, the book should be read in a book form because of all the pictures and squiggly writing. It's quite a visual experience really.

Really hoped to see a complimentary pdf to the audiobook with the pictures.

I listened to this small bundle of cheer and joy on New Years Eve. It is a lovely, and quite thought provoking story told exclusively through letters. I loved it.

It would be good except there's music playing between every letter..
