About this audiobook
Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford magazine for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures that he's got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes and write circles around them, too.
Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she's learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope is resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they're just fooling around or starting something real.Contains mature themes.

The back story... H meets the h while covering a baseball game and is immediately intrigued. He then finds out that she is his main competition for a job he is vying for.
The Romance... Extreme push/pull to the point of annoying. The H is hiding info about his brother and the h is constantly downplaying herself and telling herself that she cannot fall for him.
The drama explosion... Something happens to the H's brother and he freaks out.
Final Notes... I don't get why they needed 4 weeks of separation to discuss what happened. The h was a major doormat throughout the story. Her ex-guy friend cheated her out of the job she was applying for, then she finds out that he had a girlfriend. He comes to NY and she thinks about getting back into a relationship with him... AFTER HE SCREWED HER OVER ROYALLY!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Five stars. Read the blurb. A 4-book series.
Irresistibly Yours must be listened to FIRST. Good rom-com series with steaminess, banter, humor, and minimal angst. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/53.5 rounded up so I don't lose track of this series...
although...I wish I had started elsewhere. Anyway, this is my 4th Lauren Layne. My reactions went from meh to never again. Here let me quote myself:
"Or someone hit me upside the head. LL is on my no-fly list now. Kindly kick me in the shins if you see me listing her books again."
Then a bunch of friends I trust say how they like this series, and I think: Fine. And I was pleasantly surprised. I was even...entertained. This one was not NA, still funny, great friends-to-lovers (kinda). The heroine (Penelope) often came off younger than she was, but other than that I really enjoyed it. Except the part where they made up. I think Cole should've had to work a bit harder.
So here's the part where I say I'm wrong and move on to the rest of the backlist. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I couldn't stop reading this, it's 2am, bear with me.
A mixture of Rachel Gibson (great adding in of sports) and Julie James (fun, sassy, and sexy hero and heroine, separate and together). Bit cliche with fear of relationship reasons but whatever, I eat this formula up. Can't wait to read more by this author! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I think I say this every time I read a Lauren Layne book but I can't help myself. I. Loved. This. Book!! Cole was always one of my favorite secondary characters in the Sex, Love, & Stiletto series and I was doing a happy dance when I saw he got his own story. Pairing him up with a character like Penelope was perfection. They are both quick witted, laid back, and full of life. This book is a fun, sexy read that I simply could not put down. Although I was sad when it ended, it is Cole after all, I'm hoping we see these two in future books. I for one can't wait! I highly recommend this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher via Netgalley. This is a spin-off from the four "Sex, Love and Stiletto" stories and features many of the same characters, but focusses on Cole, who works for Oxford, the men's magazine, as a sports writer. At the beginning of the story Cole has applied for the position of editor in chief of the expanded sports section, a job which would make him a permanent member of staff (as opposed to a contracted writer). This increased financial security matters to him as he cares for his older brother Bobby, who has Downs Syndrome and lives in a group home. He is startled to discover that there is another person on the short list for the job and this turns out to be Penelope (a woman!) who is new in town and getting over a crush on Evan, who betrayed her by stealing her dream job and rejected her romantically.I like the humour of these stories and the affection the group of friends feel for each other and for their partners. It was fun to meet Julie and Grace etc again and see their relationships going strong. I survived the references to American sports I neither watch nor understand. I also liked the way the initial tension of who will get the editor's job is defused and Cole and Penelope become friends. The development of their relationship into a romantic one seemed a bit muddled to me, but I think we were supposed to conclude that Penelope needed to get over Evan properly before she could move on. At that point Bobby has his accident and Cole's behaviour was very odd: was he supposed to be pushing Penelope away out of guilt that he had not spent the day with Bobby? out of a realization of his own (and Bobby's/Penelope's) mortality? because he didn't want to admit he had fallen for her? Penelope's behaviour in the last chapters was very very forgiving - Cole is a lucky man; I don't think I'd have forgiven him for kissing Meredith, let alone the hospital rejection.Looking forward to Lincoln's story, which surely must come next.
