About this audiobook
Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.
Until the day he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract-fiancee instead of PA.
What happens when two people who loathe each other have to live together and act as though they are madly in love? Sparks. That's what happens.
Can the power of love really change a person?
Will they survive the contract?
What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can't live without?
Melanie Moreland
New York Times/USA Today/Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of thirty-plus years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them. While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys traveling, here and abroad, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip. Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She's learned happily ever afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The writing was sometimes a bit too cheesy, the love scenes especially. I really enjoyed “Bentley” and “Aiden” much more. However, I am looking forward to reading the “The Baby Clause”! I’m all in for babies!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a really good story with great narration, it's a shame that so many of the chapters get cut off short on the final word.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed the character development and HEA in The Contract. Great narration!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read this book AT LEAST once every year for 5 years. I love this book that much.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was better than I'd expected. It's a bit of a mashup of the relationship-of-convenience and enemies-to-lovers tropes (two of my favorite kinds) and delivers a slow burn with good pacing. The major conflict to the couple's relationship is realistic and not drawn out for the sake of drama. And it's resolved reasonably well into a nice, sweet happily ever after, without some kind of deus ex machina. I really enjoyed Richard's personal growth, too.
The narration was all right. I hadn't listened to any books narrated by John Lane before but he wasn't bad—not my favorite male reader, but decent and listenable. I will say that I was happy that most of the book was from the man's perspective. Tatiana Sokolov reads okay, but her voice has the tiniest lisp, not to mention a tonal quality + inflection that remind me of somebody I know. I had difficulty not picturing that person in place of Katharine, but that's more my own personal hangup.
This was good enough and I was into the story enough that I looked forward to moments when I could pop in my earbuds and continue listening. I think I'll put this on my repeat list and now I'm going to go check out other books by the same author.
P.S. As mentioned by another reviewer here, the audio itself needs some adjusting. The last word of each chapter is cut off. It doesn't detract from the story, but it certainly DIStracts. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really relly loved this series...... omggg... so sweet ❤️
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very well written and the narrators did a great job! There were some parts that were a little unbelievable and sometimes a little sappy, but overall a feel good enemies to lovers marriage of convenience romance. It was very slow burn and not overly graphic/limited spice.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was good, didn’t expect it but I thought it would be funnier and more sexual, but as an overall it was a cute story.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I'm rating this 3.5 stars
This was a fun read, but for some reason, Richard just didn't click with me. His character was...off.
I enjoyed the development between their relationship, Richard and Katherine, though I don't really like how Graham forgave Richard so quickly.
Also, the cottage scene, when Richard finds her, I honestly thought Katy would've refused to move back in right away, or request a divorce; not to jump back into a relationship right away. In my eyes, it made her look weak and desperate.
Fortunately, I liked this book enough to want to go read the second, which I'm excited for! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5"That's your fucking job. Figure it out and get it done."
Ever work a job where someone you interact with everyday- boss, coworker, vendor - you hope chokes on their sandwich or has a fatal accident with a letter opener? Be prepared: Richard VanRyan is that person. I have disliked the Hero of the story before. However, they have charming qualities that I can overcome douche like behavior. Richard - OMG - he is just an asshole. I mean there would be a moment in the start of the story you'd think he'd be charming then he'd go open his mouth. You want to junk punch him. Yet, you love to hate him. And you just gotta wonder how this contract will all play out with him at the helm.
You may read the synopsis of the story and think, "I've read this trope before." Or this can be your favorite type of storyline. You are in for a very pleasant surprise. Yes, Richard and Katy work together and the contract is the means to an end for both. They will both get what they want and walk away unscathed. Or maybe not... Although Ms Moreland tells the story from a dual POV, it's Richard's POV that keeps you turning the pages to see how this unfolds.
"That's it. You want to fuck someone? Go fuck yourself, VanRyan."
Our heroine, Katy isn't what she seems and helps Richard see the world from a different view point. His character is a study in what nurture develops us into from children to the people we associate with as adults. Can we become 'better humans'? Possibly. Richard's change isn't "Boom, now he's a teddy bear." So stealthy is the change, it's surreptitious to him. For me, to really hate a character and actually root for his HEA proves what a talented writer Ms Moreland is.
This book will bring out the feels. Sometimes stabby, sometimes sad, sometimes happy. The cast of supporting characters bring the Hero and heroine through their journey that can't help loving (most) of them. If you never read Melanie Moreland's novels, I highly recommend this novel. 5 out of 5 'love to hate him' stars.
