About this audiobook

September 1909, and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorpe’s country estate for a week of motor racing and parties. They both agree that it sounds like a perfectly charming holiday. But when one of the drivers dies in a crash during the very first race, they discover that what seemed like an uncharacteristic error in judgement may have a more sinister explanation…

Closer investigation reveals that the driver’s car was sabotaged—and the driver murdered. The local constabulary are quick to dismiss the case, but Flo and Lady Hardcastle are determined to find out just who has committed this dastardly act, and why.

As the pair begin to make enquiries of Lord Riddlethorpe’s servants and guests, it seems that, below stairs and above, there is more to this case than meets the eye. And, even in the quiet of the countryside, death is always just around the bend.

T E Kinsey

T E Kinsey grew up in London and read history at Bristol University. He worked for a number of years as a magazine features writer before falling into the glamorous world of the Internet, where he edited content for a very famous entertainment website for quite a few years more. After helping to raise three children, learning to scuba dive and to play the drums and the mandolin (though never, disappointingly, all at the same time), he decided the time was right to get back to writing. Death Around the Bend is the third in a series of mysteries starring Lady Hardcastle. You can follow him on Twitter—@tekinsey—and also find him on Facebook: www.facebook.com/tekinsey.

Love the friendship and banter of Lady Hardcastle and Armstrong. Story drew me in and had to listen to the end. All the characters are interesting and true to 1900s era. The humor makes me laugh out . Highly recommend all the audiobooks. The narrator does a wonderful job with all the voices.

Fun romp, but I figured out the motive for the murder and the intended targets in the first few chapters (thankfully not the who). It was fun watching (hearing?) Flo and Lady Hardcastle figure things out, though. That said, I felt much more sympathy for the killer than the final target. I really wouldn't have been all that bothered for them to have arrived too late.

Lady Hardcastle is one of my favorite series ever, and I don’t say that lightly. I love every single book in the series and completely wish they were real people and we could be friends. I also highly recommend the audiobook. She has a way of making the characters come alive that you don’t want to miss!

Lady Hardcastle and Florence Armstrong are invited to a house party at Codrington Hall, owned by old friend Lord Riddlethorpe. For a holiday and a week of motor car racing. Which all comes to a halt with the discovery of a dead body.
A well-written, enjoyable mystery with some lovely characters.

This series is so much fun! If you're in the mood for a light-hearted, Downton Abbey-esque series that always has a good whodunit to solve, I recommend T.E. Kinsey's Lady Hardcastle mysteries. I was really looking forward to Death Around the Bend because I'd get to read about country house parties and the early days of auto racing. The added bonus is the presence of Lady Hardcastle's maid, Florence Armstrong, who lets readers meet the people downstairs as well as those who above who get to swan about in fancy clothes all day.The mystery is a good one, although the misdirection was not completely successful. I knew Lady Hardcastle was barking up the wrong tree, and I was right, but the identity of the killer did surprise me. As the two intrepid sleuths worked through their long list of suspects, someone else dies, and they fear their investigation may turn into "detection by attrition." As good as the mystery may be, it's the characters and the humor that I can't get enough of. The banter between Lady Hardcastle and Flo is brilliant, and I lost it when "a pas de deux through the servants' hall with a bewigged badger" was mentioned. Kinsey is also helpful for those of us who are not familiar with the correct pronunciation of the surname "Featherstonehaugh." Give up? You should pronounce it "Fanshaw." Those crazy Brits...In the mood for a good puzzle to solve and some light-hearted fun? You can't go wrong with T.E. Kinsey's Lady Hardcastle mysteries. The first one is A Quiet Life in the Country, and each book in the series is a gem.

The dynamic duo go visiting from Littleton Cottrtal, the erstwhile murder capital of rural England, for the opportunity to drive on a racing motor track. Lo, and behold, a murder occurs during a race on the track. The usual suspects are gathered in the country house when the local plod declares the murder an unfortunate accident. the next victim, bonked with a spanner, is more obvious so the team goes into full investigative mode. Another jolly romp by this odd, but effective team of detectives. The murderer is forestalled by a deftly thrown table knife in a final standoff.
