About this audiobook

I am Blair Sheach, and my life will never be the same. Newfound powers don't make a hero overnight, but somehow I've become the last line of defense for the city of London. Vampires and demons crawl the streets, magic cops suck at keeping them in line, and the easy job I took to pay my rent has turned into something far more complicated. The cheating deadbeat my client hired me to find just so happens to be the necromancer hell bent on destroying London, and it's up to me to stop him.

I'm out of luck and out of time. And to save my city, the decision I have to make is one I can't take back.

This book needs to be rewritten!

The author clearly has strong writing abilities and builds a solid world. I enjoyed the main character initially...she's vulnerable and has flaws, as well as insecurities...yet strong and trying to survive in the world. Which made her a character I was rooting for.

What I don't enjoy is when an Author loses their pacing with the plot, the main character, and the character relationships involved. It feels like the author switched at the midpoint of the book and the essence of the main character was lost, as well as the plot not making any sense.

It ended terribly with no clear indication of how exactly the antagonist was defeated. I would also like to point out that the antagonist's motives were trash! You worked really hard on creating a well-rounded main character, so why such a weak antagonist? There were too many inconsistencies after the midpoint of the book and the twist at the end was weird and annoying.

I think there were too many ambiguous plot devices as well. This book has the bones of potentially being a really good series. it HAS to just be redone. the author needed to fully flesh out the plot and stay, consistent. It's really disappointing. I gave it 2 stars, because of how strong the author's writing skills are. There is no way they could not have realized the weirdness and inconsistencies after the midpoint of the book. Pacing is important. If the story was longer for the pacing to be good, then so be it.

This was an odd read. Blair was kind of unlikeable. She did grow on me but it took a while. She also made me sad, she was so closed off from everyone and everything and it made me feel lonely just thinking about it. The whole thing with Adrian at the end was horrible. Frankly I didn't see that coming at all. I think I kind of believed it was going to be a love triangle which I hate, so the fact he won't be around is good but man. What a surprise. I liked Finn and Malphas. But because it's from Blair's point of view the connection to them is kind of flat. She doesn't want to let anyone in and it's hard then to like the other characters. Perhaps in the next few books though this will change as she grows into herself. The relationship between Finn and Blair is kind of odd. I'm not sure if this is being set up for romance or not - I'd like to think not - I prefer the brother/sister thing they've got going on but then he was flirting with her, which I think was just an act but they never really discussed it and it was odd and kind of unclear. The storyline was interesting, although I am kind of iffy about the whole demons/angels thing. I've read a lot of those ones and I am kind of over it. But I think I like Blair and Malphas and Finn just enough to continue and see how it all plays out.

This book started out strong and I enjoyed the main character. Then she became whiny toward the end and I just wanted to reach in and smack her. The ending was also abrupt and unsatisfying. There were some inconsistencies in the end that left a lot of questions.

Grave Mistake by Izzy Shows is a fantastic urban fantasy with magic, demons, wizards, and a newbie mage. Lots of action, humor, great fantasy, sorcerer-type powers, talking ravens, (yep, talking ravens, it will make sense when you read the book), women in armor, and lots of kick butt fighting. It is my kind of fantasy novel! I enjoyed it completely! I am ready for book 2. The author was generous enough to let me read this, thanks so much. The least I can do is tell the world what I think of it. IT IS F*#KING AWESOME. There, got that out of my system. I love the well developed characters, very unique and wonderful. I really want to see how the relationship develops between Mel and Blair. Adding Fred was an act of brilliance. I just love all the characters! The plot was well planned and delivered like a rich piece of tiramisu while being on a diet, it arriving just when was I needing it and wanting it the most. It is refreshing to find a new kind of fantasy that makes me excited. Thanks again.
