About this audiobook
Author Melody Beattie's Codependent No More spent an astonishing three years on the New York Times best-seller list and made "codependent" a household word. In this thoughtful sequel, she offers further helpful advice for making permanent, positive lifestyle changes.
Alcoholism, drug abuse and similar destructive practices can render families dysfunctional. When the children of these families become adults, they sometimes develop self-defeating survival tactics, such as low self-esteem or an obsession with controlling another person's behavior. To help those stuck in codependent cycles identify and eliminate such troubling issues from their relationships, Beattie shares wisdom gained from years of experience. Beyond Codependency is a sensitive and supportive book that encourages listeners to adopt a practical approach when confronting their own unhealthy and unproductive behaviors. As she did with the original, narrator Christina Moore lends her reassuring voice to this important book.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Un libro inolvidable. Muy práctico y lleno de enseñanzas acerca de la vida y escrito desde el lado humano.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I’ve never had a book reach me in the darkest parts of myself, as this one did. I hope to carry these insights with me the rest of my life and share them with others, especially my grown children.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Interesting book. The real stories are the best to give good understanding of co-dependency. This book is probably best for religious people. It is very pushy on 'God' and doesn't accept non-religious beliefs.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The whole book is great but the chapter about relationships is an eye opener
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is helping through a divorce. ImThe book is wonderful! I loved your first one and now I love your second one. Thank you!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5You're learning to let go, to live your life free of the grip of someone else's problems. And yet you find you've just started on the long journey of recovery. Let Melody Beattie, author of the classic Codependent No More, help you along your way. A guided tour past the pitfalls of recovery, Beyond Codependency is dedicated to those struggling to master the art of self-care. It is a book about what to do once the pain has stopped and you've begun to suspect that you have a life to live. It is about what happens next.
In simple, straightforward terms, Beattie takes you into the territory beyond codependency, into the realm of recovery and relapse, family-of-origin work and relationships, surrender and spirituality. With personal stories, hard-won insights, and activities, her book teaches the lessons of dealing with shame, growing in self-esteem, overcoming deprivation, and getting past fatal attractions long enough to find relationships that work. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very interesting book that covers a lot of the author's own battles with codependancy.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Melody Beattie writes the kind of books you can turn to in a codependent crisis (or the aftermath) to spark back to life that inner voice of reason. Found this book first before 'Codependent No more' and didn't feel I was missing out on any of the subject matter, even though this is the later title published. Did eventually read the first book and still prefer this one. Experienced it as a real place to turn when in need of sound advice, and reassurance regarding those defective relationship reactions. Opened up a whole new perspective on my life growing up, helped make some sense of the all too often unfathomable behavior I experienced and participated in. Be ready for those hard-hitting insights, delivered with a caring tone. Especially found useful the exercises at the end of each chapter. Helped me immensely at the time I used it regularly, still refer to it now. Written by a fellow codependent that genuinely wishes to pass on that hard won wisdom and offer support to those also on the path of recovery.
