- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5TL;DR might work for some writers but none of the advice was useful for my writing style. However, the insights into motivation were interesting.
I wanted to like this but I really didn't and stopped listening after a while. Some advice is good but the author also contradicts himself a lot, and if you don't agree with him it's not that you are different, you just *don't understand*.
First he tells you to find what you enjoy in the writing process and understand what you like. "Great, I cannot write without an outline, can't get it done". Next chapter: "forget about outlines! Don't do them!" "but..." "No if you hate an advice you have to try it girl!" "I did in the past, I run into writer's block without an outline""No outline! If you cannot work without an outline it's because you're afraid!!!"...okay I will just stare at this blank page I guess? God forbid that people might be different?
Or: try writing on your phone! Tried, I hate it, cannot get stuff done (plus carpal tunnel), so what's the alternative? There is none. Just write on your phone while dreading every second of it.
Also, anyone who gets rid of all their hobbies (music, videogames) to write is a big no in my book, as those things also make me creative - it might be different for other people but that was a huge turn-off for me. At the same time he also advises to spend time with your family... I'd rather play a videogame, 10000 times.
Finally, when he talks about cutting down the time spent on each book, he says over time he learnt to only write one draft (with no outline): I think this might work in some genres but I cannot fathom it working for very complicated novels or long series, and I didn't feel this advice was universally applicable to all writers.
However, I really did like the first part about finding your motivation, hence the three stars. Inside me it would be two, but unlike the author I understand that people are different and some might find this beneficial.
In conclusion this might be a good book for some, but for me the advice was not useful and most of it would not work for my writing style. Still worth a listen for some insights.2 people found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a fantastic book! Although I don’t agree 100% on some of his philosophies, it was really inspirational and I applaud the author for bearing his soul when speaking about fears and obstacles with writing.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this was one of my favorite authors I had discovered during an online writing summit last year (through his YouTube site).
I’m very excited to check out the recommended books.
The length of this book was just right, and I always appreciate audiobooks! Now, off to finish my novel! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a book on writing I will listen to again. A lot of good strategies on writing faster, overcoming writer's block and more.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The author mostly talks about himself, but I definitely enjoyed listening to this audiobook and found some useful advice
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very insightful about the mental and spiritual discipline so needed in the writing life
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Provided real insight into the mind of an accomplished writer. Thank you for writing this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I normally wouldn’t pick up a book with this title because it seemed business-oriented and about teaching us to crank things out - but I found it to be a very comprehensive and human look at writing pitfalls and the writing life, and very inspiring and full of wisdom and kindness. I am glad it came my way and glad I read it. I will reread it - and recommend it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved it ..without any non sense ...straight to the subject
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this author and book! I love it when a successful self published fiction author goes on to write helpful books for other writers. This had several new ideas in it and was very helpful.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The author makes good on his promise. His prolific nature is so intense it’s almost comical how he pulls off his daily routine. He is a writing machine. While I’m definitely going to greatly differ from his strategy, he gave me a lot of useful tools that will help me refine my process. He’s an interesting dude. Personally, I like to prioritize a variety of creative hobbies like painting and music, I find that it helps me with idea generation. I’m a brain cancer survivor, and this guy really empowers everyone who loves writing to know that they can do it. I’m definitely going to start writing when I’m stuck in bed with a migraine.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Okay to read and build a mindset of being prolific in your writing
