About this audiobook
“A gutsy book you need to read right now. Filled with heart and humor, it’s scary good.” —Courtney Love
Unwifeable is the “riveting” (Cheryl Strayed), “inspirational” (Issa Rae), “hilarious” (Candace Bushnell) debut memoir from notorious dating columnist Mandy Stadtmiller that is destined to “blow you away” (Colin Quinn). Critics call it “phenomenal” (Cat Marnell), “unflinching” (Elle), “brilliant” (BBC), “outrageously entertaining” (Booklist) and “a must-read” (BuzzFeed).
Provocative, fearless, and dizzyingly uncensored, Mandy spills every secret she knows about dating, networking, comedy, celebrity, media, psychology, relationships, addiction, and the quest to find one’s true nature. She takes readers behind the scenes (and name names) as she relays her utterly addictive journey.
Starting in 2005, Mandy picks up everything to move across the country to Manhattan, looking for a fresh start. She is newly divorced, thirty-years-old, with a dream job at the New York Post. She is ready to conquer the city, the industry, the world. But underneath the glitz and glamour, there is a darker side threatening to surface. The drug-fueled, never-ending party starts off as thrilling…but grows ever-terrifying. Too many blackout nights and scary decisions begin to add up. As she searches for the truth behind the façade, Mandy realizes that falling in love won’t fix her—until she learns to accept herself first.
This is a true New York fairy tale brought to life—Sex and the City on acid. Perfect for when “you feel stuck in some way and wish to become unstuck” (Caroline Kepnes), you’all soon see why Unwifeable is one of the best reviewed, most beloved memoirs of the year.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not sorry, not sorry, I did not particularly like this book. To me, it was scattered, it did seem like loads of blog post bundled up together. The content was interesting, surely, Stadtmiller makes many interesting and relevant points about toxic relationships and a toxic view of oneself (and how they influence one another). I did note down a few quotes from the book, and I want to acknowledge Stadtmiller for sharing her journey, for being open, vulnerable, outspoken. I don't think it would eb right or even ethical of me to say that I have "read better memoirs" because who am I to judge someone else's life, essentially, but the narration throughout the book seemed to me scattered, unstructured.
The revelations that the author is describing are kind of "dumped" on the reader. Things escalate quickly, it's like drizzles of abrupt narratives, rather than a congruent story.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is so great. Not for the faint of heart! But
I related with so much of what was at the heart of this. SO much.
She writes and tells her story so well. Never a dull moment. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really enjoyed this book. Her honesty, sense of humor and openness were outstanding, and well worth the read
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love love love this! One of the best books about a destructive life
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I actually would have given this book at least 3 stars if you'd never subjected those poor dogs to your narcissistic, irresponsible, it's-all-disposable-if-it's-inconvenient world. You outright killed one of them with your childish irresponsibility and you sure didn't take any responsibility for the other one. I could not care less about your drugging, drinking and careless sex, but when you cause already-traumatized animals to suffer needlessly because you have to be taught caring and compassion, you've lost this reader. Then to have to listen to your self-aggrandizing last chapter was just too much. Evidently you are both superficial wastes of resources. And by the way, Keith Olbermann is WAY to good for you.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What a trip this was. Good for her for confronting her addictions head on and thriving as a sober person.
