About this audiobook
"Fearless in its exploration of family, forgiveness, loyalty, and love, Sky in the Deep is fierce, vivid, and violently beautiful. This book will wage a war with your heart as brutal and as bold as the battles inked in its pages." - Stephanie Garber, New York Times Bestselling author of Caraval
In her highly-anticipated debut audiobook, Adrienne Young brings to life a lush, vivid world that will enchant listeners everywhere. Sky in the Deep is mythic in scope and speaks straight to the heart.
Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient, rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: train to fight and fight to survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.
Eelyn loses her focus and is captured. Now, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan settling in the valley, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.
She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and family to find a way to forgive her brother while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.
More praise for Sky in the Deep:
"Young’s often poetic writing forms a stark juxtaposition with her vivid descriptions of battle and bloodshed, creating a clear picture of the brutality of war." — Publishers Weekly
"Young’s staccato prose matches her fierce fighters, but the raw emotions and rapid pacing belie a well-honed voice and taut narrative. A rousing saga and moving coming-of-age tale, perfect for those who appreciate the wild and the wildlings, strong female protagonists, and cinematic battles." — Kirkus

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I didn’t know what to expect when I started listening to this. It was a book that had caught my attention and Sounded like something I’d enjoy. I heard it was about Vikings and that’s about it. It was really really good. It was violent with the right amount of gore and uncomfortableness. The romance was inevitable but not cliche. The violence and culnerable was that came from opening ones heart worked in ways that I can’t really explain. The transformation of Evelyn was satisfying and believable. The ending was bloody, and while it didn’t wrap everything up with a bow, it felt complete. I’d definitely read more from this author.

Seventeen-year-old Eelyn was raised as a warrior so she could join in the ancient battle against the Riki clan every five years, as their gods ordered. On the battlefield she sees her brother fighting with the enemy. But it couldn't be, because he fell in battle five years ago, and she saw his dead body.
Captured by the Riki, she is now the slave of those whom her brother now calls family. Weeks into her captivity, in the dead of night, the village is raided by a clan thought by the Riki to be a legend. But Eelyn knows this tribe isn't a dark legend for it was the clan that raided her village years ago, killing her mother on the beach.
The Riki clan suffers major losses, and she discovers that the raiders had attacked her clan weeks before, their losses just as bad. There is no doubt that if the two clans do not unite, the raiders will have no problem picking them off one by one.
This book sucked me right in and it was hard to come back to this world. The setting was described in great detail, though Eelyn's camp's surroundings should've had just a little more detail. There were some 'blind spots' that if explained would've given more depth to the area and the two clans' hardships for survival, and the battlefield.
The characters had a lot of personality and depth. The only thing about the story that really bothered me was the ending. The climax didn't have a lot of details, it was rushed to end the book, and a little boring. But there needed to be more story about how the clans were dealing with the 'peace' after centuries of hatred. (Maybe in the next book, which I will be looking for.)
The romance was 'clean', but where the romantic interest came from wasn't really explained.
There is violence and blood so it is not suitable for readers under 16.
4 Stars - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked it. I like the courage of each one of the characters. In this book, we can see what it is to leave in fear and with the ghosts of the past. If we don't forgive, no one will forgive us.
It is 4 stars, because I felt the beginning a little slow. But, I strongly recommend this book. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed this book! Wow. I am so glad I found this. Strong female character, and stronger family ties.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A cute story that is very inspiring to you g women
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Finished the whole book in a day. It’s really an amazing read. 10/10.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was good. Interestingly paced, very top heavy. I wanted a bit more romance but the level fit the setting. I didn't hate the main character. Normally I spend the whole book annoyed at the main character and the dumb tropes but I actually liked this one. They do spend some time leading up to the end and then it sort of just works out which was disappointing. Spoilers: the clans just agree to work together and at the end it seems like everything just worked out abs generations of hate disappeared. I would have liked to see more around convincing the clans to work together and then info on how life worked out once their was no fighting between clans.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Action, Vikings and Romance! I highly recommend this book and actually purchased the hard copy of it half way through listening to the audio book. It was a great YA read and no cheesy love triangle (like so many of the YA stories) I really liked the characters and look forward more works by this author.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book, it satisfied my Viking craving ???
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I didn't know I was missing this book my whole like. I love it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing and includes my favorite, Enemies to lovers trope ??
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5this book was an interesting one... with a viking twist on a "romeo and Juliet" plot of two clans that fight each other every 5 years like their gods did years ago.... that is till a common enemy threaten them.... now they have to put their hate down and fight together.
The plot was pretty straight forward and predictable but it still had that little spark that will make you want to know how it will end... will they survive? will they love blossom?? - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was amazing. The author really understood the importance of war and battle for the Viking people. The characters where so beautifully made. I wish the book never ended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Adrienne Young is becoming one of my favorite authors. I loved Fable and Namesake. This one was a bit less unique but I still enjoyed it. I love how her female characters are always equal to men (girl power!) And her action scenes are so descriptive and easy to visualize - that's not always the case with epic novels. I just got a bit confused with the name because i'm listebing to the audiobooks instead of reading the book, but I got the hang of it quickly.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh, my heart! I absolutely love this book! It has easily become one of my favorites of 2018. Adrienne is such a phenomenal writer, stitching words together that tugged on all of heart strings. I could feel her empathy and love for all her characters, there were none that were left dry and one-dimensional. Each had their own purpose and light. Eelyn’s journey filled the pages with equal amounts of action, sadness, and love. I did not feel empty or finding myself asking questions when I finished. I highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was an amazing dark gruesome story with Vikings and fighting and war mixed with a bit of love and family reuniting. Absolutely love it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good storyline and loved the chacters but to predictable .
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked how it wasn’t just romance but lots of women power and fighting!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I made a mistake and listened to the second book first, but I still loved getting to hear the back story of these people! The world is rich and vivid. The fight sequences are well thought out and they aren't full of smut! Wonderful books!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed seeing the old prejudices collapse as the main character realizes her hatred ignored the shared humanity with those she had grown up wanting to kill. That’s the essence of this book.
There was plenty of brutality in the fight scenes, but the author recognized the feelings of shock and grief. At times it seemed killing was a routine to these clans, so their evolution seemed very rapid, but it was fun to read just the same. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm so glad I selected this book at random. After listening to Sky in the Deep I've listened to more Adrienne Young and she's just my favorite. Her stories are captivating, entertaining, and they always leave you wanting more. She also inserts emotion and feeling in such a subtle way that I appreciate so much. I got teary-eyed frequently through Sky in the Deep, including right up front. The best part is that it was in a refreshing, resonating way where I was feeling emotions along with the characters. Not necessarily because of a gut-wrenching event or because the character or story was sad... but just naturally when the characters were reflecting on their own feelings, growth, and experiences as a person. I'm not sure any other book has had me crying so comfortably throughout. Aside from all of that, the storyline is excellent and I love the character development and interactions, in general. All-in-all, anything Ms. Young puts out will be on my future reading lists. I'm working on The Girl the Sea Gave Back, right now, and I'm fervently anticipating the release of the sequel to Fable (which I've read, also.) Keep 'em coming, Adrienne. I'm a fan.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Strong writing skills, but poorly developed story. The scenes were richly described and the emotions of the characters were realistic. The fight scenes were brutal and well written, and it was easy to follow the action. I felt really let down by the story, however. No interesting twist at the end. "Omens" turned out to be nothing. Just another bloody battle and suddenly the story is over. This author has potential, but I felt this book was a waste of my time.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The book awful the audiobook great! Only thing that kept me good bf!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Brutal and lovely, like enemies coming together. 100% recommend.
