About this audiobook

Browsing an antiques shop in Wiltshire, Alison Bannister stumbles across a delicate old portrait—identified as the doomed Tudor queen, Anne Boleyn. Except Alison knows better. The subject is Mary Seymour, the daughter of Katherine Parr, who was taken to Wolf Hall in 1557 and presumed dead after going missing as a child. And Alison knows this because she, too, lived at Wolf Hall and knew Mary...more than four hundred years ago.

The painting of Mary is more than just a beautiful object for Alison—it holds the key to her past life, the unlocking of the mystery surrounding Mary’s disappearance and how Alison can get back to her own time. To when she and Mary were childhood enemies yet shared a pact that now, finally, must be fulfilled, no matter the cost.

Bestselling author of House of Shadows Nicola Cornick offers a provocative alternate history of rivals, secrets and danger, set in a time when a woman’s destiny was determined by the politics of men and luck of birth. A spellbinding tale for fans of Kate Morton, Philippa Gregory and Barbara Erskine.

I had not heard of this lady before listening to the book. Well, I have sat listening, etc, to it virtually non stop for two days. I had to finish it and find out the next step, and then the next step. It was like a jigsaw puzzle or a game of chess, what did Allison say, " two steps horizontal and one above,' as the threads unwound to the next layer as the spider watched above. It was a very gripping tale, interesting and often 'bloody' characters, and as I love to wander into the past. I do not hesitate to give this book 5/5. She deserves and now I need to see what else she has written. For this is not AD but 2019. Thanks for putting it up.

As being a history buff, it was more fantasy and less historical. However, it was well written and it made me want to read from the beginning to the end. A very good no nonsense book with a mix of fantasy and history.

Really enjoyed The Phantom Tree. I’m a big fan of Outlander, so another book with time travel being a theme is right up my alley. This one has fascinating characters and an intriguing plot. I didn’t see the surprises coming along the way so this book kept my interest all the way to the end. I would recommend this book for certain, and will read more of the author for sure.

The book was really quite well done, the character development was pretty great and the story moved along without dragging. I would have given it 5 stars had the narrator's swallowing noises been editing out. I almost gave up the book out of sheer disgust with the sounds.
