Descriere

Academy award-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon invites you into her world, where she infuses the southern style, parties, and traditions she loves with contemporary flair and charm.

Reese Witherspoon's grandmother Dorothea always said that a combination of beauty and strength made southern women "whiskey in a teacup." We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside we're strong and fiery.

Reese's southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea's fried chicken. It's reflected in how she entertains, decorates her home, and makes holidays special for her kids—not to mention how she talks, dances, and does her hair (in these pages, you will learn Reese's fail-proof, only slightly insane hot-roller technique). Reese loves sharing Dorothea's most delicious recipes as well as her favorite southern traditions, from midnight barn parties to backyard bridal showers, magical Christmas mornings to rollicking honky-tonks.

It's easy to bring a little bit of Reese's world into your home, no matter where you live. After all, there's a southern side to every place in the world, right?

I really enjoyed hearing Reese Witherspoon narrate her own book. She is so relatable somehow. The book was good and would be a great addition for a young woman going to college, having her first apartment, or getting married. I love that she mentioned reading and what it means to her. We all know she has a book club, but it felt really personal to have her mention it here.

As a girl from Alabama I loved this book. I found myself nodding along and saying yep. I love the chapter devoted to monogram. That is a true Southern stereotype. I am having my work two hole punch monogrammed. Not joking. This made me think of my own life and memories. Love it.

I really enjoyed this book! I can’t believe it’s over! I can relate to Reese! However I’m from the way north so we have quirks and get made fun of for our northern drawl!

I’ve always been a fan of Reese! Now I feel a tad bit closer to her! Like a Sisterfriend. There’s is only one way to read it- audiobook because you have to hear her voice and energy, as she Goes over some fundamental and stitched details of good old fashion living! I enjoyed every minute of it, I’d imagine Reese is throwing parties whereever she is calling home. - boy to be on that guest list!! It would be quite special.

So sweet and charming! I loved hearing Reese Witherspoon's voice as she recounted stories of her upbringing! Do checkout the recipes she mentions all throughout - there are many that I can't wait to try.

The book was enjoyable, but definitely more whiskey and less teacup. If you're a Southern Living reader then you will likely find the book enjoyable enough, but it was missing a bit of the southern zaniness that I truly associate with southern women in the south. It is definitely more geared towards the Cotillion/Junior League crowd than the Steele Magnolias group.

Love this book!! After having moved away from my family & home in the south, it helped to fill the void had been longing for.
  • (3/5)
I found this book disappointing. I guess its ok to have a frilly book about dinner parties and decor but I guess it just felt shallow and unimportant to me. I was hoping for a book that was more impactful. Not my cup of tea ?.

Reese Witherspoon has a way with words as she provides insight into some of our most deeply-rooted traditions and vernacular! "Whiskey in a Teacup" is a wonderful, short, and extremely enjoyable read (and/or listen) that will have you laughing a lot and crying a little, as it is full of personal stories that are easily relatable and will indubitably stir up countless memories.

This is a short and sweet taste of the south for anyone not from these parts and for any southerner, it will be like sitting out on the porch with an old friend sipping some sweet tea or lemonade.

I initially began this as an audiobook, unaware it would be read by Reese herself! And let me tell you, this was a real treat in and of itself! Her classic southern charm brings additional warmth and connectivity to the text. I ended up purchasing the hardback version just for some of these traditional menus and recipes that my grandmother never wrote down. Not only is this a fun and entertaining read, but it is also a great kitchen-companion!

Like any good Southern lady, "Whiskey in a Teacup" is both classic and timeless!

What a great read!! Reese really knows how to make you feel like she’s your friend.

Very very southern. All the stereotypes you ever heard and just enough insight into her life. Cute and fluffy to listen to when you're doing something else. Sure the recipes will be great too.
