About this audiobook
A haunted house, a killer ghost, and a long-lost comic come to life in another spectacular novel from Cherie Priest, author of I Am Princess X.
Denise Farber has just moved back to New Orleans with her mom and stepdad. They left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and have finally returned, wagering the last of their family's money on fixing up an old, rundown house and converting it to a bed and breakfast.
Nothing seems to work around the place, which doesn't seem too weird to Denise. The unexplained noises are a little more out of the ordinary, but again, nothing too unusual. But when floors collapse, deadly objects rain down, and she hears creepy voices, it's clear to Denise that something more sinister lurks hidden here.
Answers may lie in an old comic book Denise finds concealed in the attic: the lost, final project of a famous artist who disappeared in the 1950s. Denise isn't budging from her new home, so she must unravel the mystery on the pages and off them if she and her family are to survive.
Cherie Priest
Cherie Priest debuted to great acclaim with Four and Twenty Blackbirds, Wings to the Kingdom, and Not Flesh Nor Feathers, a trilogy of Southern Gothic ghost stories featuring heroine Eden Moore. She is also the author of Fathom, Dreadnought, and Boneshaker, which was nominated for a Nebula and Hugo Award and won the PNBA Award and the Locus Award for best science-fiction novel. She is an associate editor at Subterranean Press. Born in Tampa, Florida, Priest went to college at Southern Adventist University and earned her master’s in rhetoric at the University of Tennessee. After spending most of her life in the southern United States, she recently moved to Seattle, Washington, with her husband, Aric, and a fat black cat named Spain.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story was cute but I have a couple specific issues. The first is how unrealistic the main characters reactions are to knowing a malevolent ghost is in her home and trying to kill her family. She is way too calm. The second and biggest gripe is that the author had to point out the race of every character. Even the electrician was noted to be white. To me, it is really lazy writing when the way you describe a person's looks is as plain as, they are black or they are white. There are thousands of other ways to describe the way people look that are not as lazy and uninspiring . I enjoyed watching the mystery unfold and putting together little clues from the comic book and real time.
