Descriere

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, The Lying Game, and The Death of Mrs. Westaway comes Ruth Ware's highly anticipated fifth novel.

When she stumbles across the ad, she's looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss—a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten—by the luxurious "smart" home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family.

What she doesn't know is that she's stepping into a nightmare—one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasn't just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasn't just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasn't even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant.

It was everything.

She knows she's made mistakes. She admits that she lied to obtain the post, and that her behavior toward the children wasn't always ideal. She's not innocent, by any means. But, she maintains, she's not guilty—at least not of murder. Which means someone else is.

Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, The Turn of the Key is an unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

Very suspenseful, up to the very end. Loved the book.

It was fantastic! I couldn’t stop listening!

This book was amazing. One of the better ghost stories I’ve heard in awhile. There were some twists I never saw coming and still feel shocked about as I sit here writing this.

I loved the ending, of course I still have so many questions, specific to the ending, that I wish I could ask the author! I highly suggest this book to anyone who enjoys supernatural/thriller or even mystery novels.
I will absolutely be reading more from this author

This was just great the turns and twists and all that happened until the end it was great
The narrator too was perfection I truly enjoyed it

So I still feel a little like WTF JUST HAPPENED...but I’ve never been more invested in a book like this. While it was a true slow burn and my god took forever to GET TO THE POINT....the ending, the twist and the turns and the story, the real truth behind it all...I really enjoyed this one.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars for good reads because while I enjoyed it, it was a bit much for me.

All I can say is WOW!!!!! I did not see that coming!!! The story creeped me out...in the best ways possible. Ruth Ware has truly outdone herself—I think this is her best!!!!!!

I was hooked, yet felt the ending left me wanting.
    I needed more, I suppose.
The character of Jack was not well written.
And the true identity of Rowan was odd and felt thrown in.

It was suspenseful and creepy with some surprisingly unexpected twists!

Lovely narration, super creepy. It got me brokenhearted though. Amazing amazing book.

This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more of her books!
Wow. That was not at all what I was expecting! And I didn’t really see any of the twists coming. But the ending. Omg. Right up until the last page was mind blowing. This book kept me pretty much on the edge of my seat. I wanted to keep reading. I had to know what was going on!!! I loved how the author only gives pieces of the story at a time. I can’t even say how much I enjoyed this book and how the author revealed things.
    READ THIS!
The audiobook is great too. Love the narrator. She really brings it to life.

Wow wow wow!!!!!!! I am blown away again by Ruth Ware! Utterly shocking! A must read!
  • (1/5)
Why is this not broken down into chapters? This audibook is made up of three chapters, the latter of which is 11 hours long - while the physical version is much more digestible at 20 chapters. A horrible listening experience to a really nice novel. Please fix this!

  • (4/5)
Good thriller, not a dumb ending. Enjoyed it every much!
  • (3/5)
It was pretty good but a little anticlimactic at the end
  • (4/5)
Definitely a page turner, very entertaining! The twists were unpredictable. Definitely a good read during the pandemic if you need to take your mind off of things.
  • (3/5)
Story turned out to be good but the build up was very long. I also was hoping for more supernatural than was in story. Excellent performance by narrator.
  • (5/5)
What a twist! I never saw it coming! Amazing and binge worthy and you hang onto every word for every minute
  • (4/5)

This book was just simply amazing and the audiobook was also amazing

Love the format, ending was barely satisfying but the storyline was amazing. Love the twists added to the end too
  • (3/5)
Honestly I loved the tone of this book and the characters. However, I couldn't leave a really positive review as I absolutely hated the ending.
  • (4/5)

The narrator, Imogen Church is fantastic and she does an exceptional job reading this book. The plot seems obvious but twists in ways you don’t expect and was actually scary at one point. Excellent character development and believable character motivations. I really enjoyed it.
  • (4/5)
Engaging story that will have you guessing right up to the end.
  • (1/5)
Made it halfway or so and just couldn’t take it anymore. Not a single likable character.
  • (5/5)
This is definitely my favorite Ruth Ware book (so far). There were so many great twists I didn’t see coming. This book was the perfect amount of creepy. Everything unfolded so well & the audio was amazing. I was not expecting this book to be so great & I am very pleased

Oh my! I love Ruth Ware’s books but this one was outstanding. Brilliantly narrated by Imogen Church, the psychological terror built up steadily and from the first few pages, it was impossible to put down. Truly excellent.

So good! The twist at the end was amazing!! Didn’t see it coming!
