About this audiobook

An abandoned old house in a small town northeast of Houston is the site of a second murder, eerily similar to a supposed cold case of fourteen years earlier. FBI Agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are dispatched to find the link between the two homicides.

The team, including Ice and Billy, find the case to be anything but cold. For CJ and Paige, juggling the investigation while trying to keep their love affair a secret proves to be as hard as uncovering long-buried clues.

I loved this book as well as the first book in this series! Romance is fine on its own, but the addition of suspense, mystery, and action makes for a very interesting read. I also love Abby Craden's narration bringing the characters to life with distinct voices. Great read!

Much better than the first book!
I loved this book. It was spooky and exciting and also romantic. I liked the cases they were assigned and how they wrapped them all up. And I loved how the main characters were together. I also liked how everyone was pretty freaked out about the weird stuff. It all seemed so realistic. I know some books really work when the weird stuff is treated as normal, but this book took a bit of a different take, and the characters were caught off guard by the happenings. I really liked the relationship and how they communicated and checked in with each other. And how they and the other FBI agents had weaknesses that they dealt with so no one was perfect. I am very glad I read this book after the somewhat disappointing (unfulfilling) ending of the first book. I wonder if Gerri Hill is planning more books in the series. I hope so!

I listened to the audiobook, and Abby Craden is awesome, as always.

I really like the characters in this series. They are dedicated FBI agents with a sense of humor even though the things they investigate fall short on the humor side. I read this more for the ghost story but found a budding well done romance along with it. I don't usually care for romances but this one didn't overshadow the paranormal story line. The book is rather short...288 pages...wish it had just been a tad longer. I'm looking forward to book 3 in this series.

I liked this book, the second in the CJ & Paige series, even better than the first one. Like in the first book it was about two pairs of FBI partners, CJ and Ice, and Paige and Billy. And at the story of this book Paige and CJ are trying to keep their relationship a secret. The two pairs as a team get assigned to see if a child's death by supposedly a haunted house is connected to four other missing/presumed dead boys from fourteen years previously. They have to work with the county's sheriff and deputies including one named Brady who annoyed me just as he annoyed the FBI characters. And eventually they find they feel the need to solve both the old and new mysteries.I got into the plot much faster than in the first book, and like in the first book the characters were just awesome. IT was also a little bit less supernatural. And weirdly enough the supernatural in this book fit in with the rest of the mystery even better than in the first book.It was a good (if teensy tiny bit predictable) mystery, a great romance, and a nicely supernatural and suspenseful novel.

If you liked Keepers of the Cave you will love this book. I actually found it to be even better than Keepers of the Cave. I learned in reading this, don't read spooky books at night, in the dark, when it is windy out. I think the relationship between Ice, Billy, CJ, and Paige is great. The flirting between Paige and CJ in public was hilarious. I hope that there are more books in this series.

Joy's review: As one of our book club members said "I would have liked this book when I was 15." FBI agents (and lovers) tackle and cold case in a haunted house. Competently written and the detective bits were good, but I suppose the haunted aspect of things was a bit ridiculous for me. The male detectives were way too willing to talk about their partners feelings to be believable for me.
