In this thrilling sequel to the New York Times bestselling novella by Stephen King and award-winning author Richard Chizmar, an adult Gwendy is summoned back to Castle Rock after the mysterious reappearance of the button box.

Something evil has swept into the small Maine town of Castle Rock on the heels of the latest winter storm. Sheriff Norris Ridgewick and his team are desperately searching for two missing girls, but time is running out.

In Washington, DC, thirty-seven-year-old Gwendy Peterson couldn’t be more different from the self-conscious teenaged girl who once spent a summer running up Castle Rock’s Suicide Stairs. That same summer, she had been entrusted—or some might say cursed—with the extraordinary button box by Richard Farris, the mysterious stranger in the black suit. The seductive and powerful box offered Gwendy small gifts in exchange for its care and feeding until Farris eventually returned, promising the young girl she’d never see the box again.

One day, though, the button box suddenly reappears but this time, without Richard Farris to explain why, or what she’s supposed to do with it. Between this and the troubling disappearances back in Castle Rock, Gwendy decides to return home. She just might be able to help rescue the missing girls and stop a dangerous madman before he does something ghastly.

With breathtaking and lyrical prose, Gwendy’s Magic Feather explores whether our lives are controlled by fate or the choices we make and what price we sometimes have to pay. Prepare to return again to Stephen King’s Castle Rock, the sleepy little town built on a bedrock of deep, dark secrets, just as it’s about to awaken from its quiet slumber once more.

We get it Chizmar, you don't like Trump. This is what you do when given a King novella to help with? Take half the book up with your political views? After he gets all that out of his system, the 2nd half of the book gets interesting. The other issues I have is there is never really any climax, the whole book rides a smooth wave, the tempo stays the same. Still...looking forward to book 3.

Geeze, is there no place that's not infected by politics?

I like the story and the writing style, but the political preaching is too much.

Are you a Democrat? Great! Are you a Republican? Great! Just tell me a story that has "none of the above" please!

I loved the narration voice in this book but not so much the book itself. I expected more out of the feather & more thrilling mystery

I think that this was a good second book for us fans of Gwendy. I hope that questions are answered in the next book.

Loved the first book. It held notes of King, felt like King, played out like a King story. Whether or not he wrote any of it is a mystery, but there's definitely a more laid back, aged approach to the first novella's storytelling, wherein here, it feels like a generic-thriller author mimicking King.

Yet it's a thriller without any thrills. There's zero conflict. The book is, quite frankly, boring as hell, and all plot points come to a neat conclusion so quickly and effortlessly that it left my head spinning. What was the point of the cancer? What was the point of the serial killer? When you introduce a problem and then solve it on the next page or three, what's the point of the book as a whole?

We all think we know why this book exists, so let's tackle the 800-pound cow in the room.

To milk or not to milk? That is the question.

Is this book a cash-grab? Certainly. But every book not given away for free is a cash-grab, or else the world would be bursting with charity publishers. Was the book written to make money off Chizmar's association with King? I'm leaning toward a hard yes, because there's no story here worth telling, but no one knows the truth but Chizmar. That's the cynic in me. The King fan in me wants to think that King allowed this book because he thought that Chizmar's heart was in the right place. What spurs the cynic's return is that Chizmar is a business man. Money in, money out. Cemetery Dance is one of the best publishers of limiteds I've come across, even if their quality of new talent has...weakened over the years. King isn't gonna live forever, and there's only so many times one press can reprint reprints, so what's a good business man to do?

I'll leave that up to you to decide.

I went into this one wanting to like it or else I wouldn't have read it. I hoped that what others were saying wasn't true, but it was. I wanted to believe that Chizmar meant well, but what's here doesn't feel like a story that was rattling around inside anyone fighting to get out. It feels like a cobbled together fan fiction whose sole purpose is to suckle from the teat of that which came before it. And if I'm completely honest, it feels disrespectful as fuck.

I'm not mad. Just disappointed. If there's another book, I'll skip it.

Really boring. I tried to finish it, but I found the story line going too many places. Hard to keep my interest. I do not recommend this book to anyone.

Nearly died of boredom. Only carried on because Mr. King is rumoured to actually be involved in the writing of the 3rd.
