About this audiobook
Combining the social commentary of The Handmaid’s Tale with the white-knuckled thrills of Red Rising, this epic space opera filled with “lush prose” (Publishers Weekly) follows a comfort woman as she claims her agency, a soldier questioning his allegiances, and a non-binary hero out to save the solar system.
First Sister has no name and no voice. As a priestess of the Sisterhood, she travels the stars alongside the soldiers of Earth and Mars—the same ones who own the rights to her body and soul. When her former captain abandons her, First Sister’s hopes for freedom are dashed when she is forced to stay on her ship with no friends, no power, and a new captain—Saito Ren—whom she knows nothing about. She is commanded to spy on Captain Ren by the Sisterhood, but soon discovers that working for the war effort is much harder when you’re falling in love.
Lito val Lucius climbed his way out of the slums to become an elite soldier of Venus but was defeated in combat by none other than Saito Ren, resulting in the disappearance of his partner, Hiro. When Lito learns that Hiro is both alive and a traitor to the cause, he now has a shot at redemption: track down and kill his former partner. But when he discovers recordings that Hiro secretly made, Lito’s own allegiances are put to the test. Ultimately, he must decide between following orders and following his heart.
With “a layered, action-filled plot and diverse characters” (Library Journal), The First Sister explores the power of technology, colonization, race, and gender and is perfect for fans of James S.A. Corey, Chuck Wendig, and Jay Posey.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I like the concept and worldbuilding! There are some parts that questionable to me but I can't say much because I'm not the own-voice reader of the book. Please look up the trigger warning before you read!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It took a minute to get into it but I ended up loving it!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The twist & turns via the political intrigue was amazing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing narration and wonderful story. It's original and has such a great world. I love it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I "really liked" this book and it should get 4 stars but I think it merits 5 stars anyhow. I (don't believe) I award many 5-star ratings and, to be perfectly frank, I don't think the book is a true "five (5) star" rated book but the ideas, narration, and craft overall earned it from me. I am also the type of reader that will start listening to say 50-plus pages and if it doesn't keep my interest, I'll move on after some time I may try again but very few make the cut. One very special book did come out finally as a dead on 5 stars. Very unusual. "The Invisible Life of Addie la Rue. Amazing book and I don't know what I almost missed. Another solid 5-star not to miss is "Hamnet". I wish more reviewers would mention their favorite new books, (Brandon Sanderson)
I've had to rewrite this review 4 times. I'm throwing in what's disappeared which is the last book in the trilogy out on Audible on Nov 8, oddly enough, yet the cover doesn't even get a picture. I'm moving onto "The Second Rebel" tomorrow.
The parts of the book involving 'First Sister' or that group, were much more enjoyable though the duelists picked up.
I've been hoping the 3rd book in this Trilogy, The Last Hero, found on Audible would have at least been posted and "offered" for an upcoming month but nothing. Not even the book cover. Audible has this alleged finale releasing in 3 days, or oddly enough on November 8th. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great story, beautifully written. For fans of the Expanse and of the Handmaid’s Tale
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good book very good reading ? thank you very much
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you're looking for sci-fi that's all about anti-imperialism, look no further! This is an AMAZING story. Deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Cant wait to read the next one, Second Rebel!
