      I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s a waste of time to listen to. I didn’t not like this. The plot didn’t make sense. The reason for her parents treatment toward the FMC, didn’t make sense at all. Especially, when the father had nothing to contribute at all. And the MMC constantly comparing Mallory and Valerie was truly gross and ridiculous. He was very horrible to her. It just proved she still has a lot to overcome in terms of self worth.

      As soon as I turned 18 I left behind my sister and parents. I was never good enough and always in the shadows compared to my sister Valorie. But here I am, many years later back in my hometown with a new job, no friends and a family, I don't know anymore. Everything changes when I run into my sister's boyfriend Duke Kincaid.

      I picked this up on a whim, went in blind and by the end of the first chapter, I was gripped. I knew it was going to be an emotional rollercoaster from the first chapter. It has a great plot, is under 250 pages and is easy to listen to. I loved Mallory the FMC she had been through so much growing up and decided to distance herself from family. Duke the MMC is fighting his past with his potential future. This man's thoughts made me weak though. The Audiobook narration was fantastic.

      I will say as it's short I wish the enemies-to-lovers element in this dragged out more. Because you could feel the tension between the two but it only lasted a handful of chapters.

      My first read by L. K. Carlow, I thoroughly enjoyed this forbidden romance. It was low angst, both sweet and steamy, both the H and h were inherently good people…but they had a shared tragedy in the past. I enjoy stories with relatable characters, and they were well-crafted. Narration was great! This book is a 4.5 for me. Highly recommend!
