About this series
In a discontented kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Four orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point — he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.
As Sage moves from a rundown orphanage to Conner's sumptuous palace, layer upon layer of treachery and deceit unfold, until finally, a truth is revealed that, in the end, may very well prove more dangerous than all of the lies taken together.
An extraordinary adventure filled with danger and action, lies and deadly truths that will have readers clinging to the edge of their seats.
And don't miss the highly anticipated fourth book in the series, The Captive Kingdom, coming October 2020!

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I was disapointed by this serie. It had a good premise but the setting was so lacking. There's the good guy kingdom with some corrupt nobles who just want power; then the bad guy kingdom, which is bad just because the king is bad and really wants to kill the protagonist and get more power from the good kingdom. The rest aren't even worth mentionning since they were so unimportant that removing them entirely wouldn't have change much. Also the plot repeats itself a lot. Protagonist will without fail always end up sacrificing himself for one of his friends and get captured and beat up and then eventually escape over and over again. You'd think the bad guys learned to kill the dude already. And most of the protagonist companions are there to sing their praises to him or to cause more emotional distress to the protagonist so that he may save them from an even shittier situation.i really hate it when characters who are described as competant are really just stupid by sacrificing themselves for no reason at all. Their sacrifices litterally just made things worse with 0 positive outcome.
