About this audiobook

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Sinner brings another hot adventure of true love and ultimate sacrifice in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world.

The location of the glymera’s notorious prison camp was lost after the raids. When a freak accident provides Nyx clues to where her sister may still be doing time, she becomes determined to find the secret subterranean labyrinth. Embarking on a journey under the earth, she learns a terrible truth—and meets a male who changes everything, forever.

The Jackal has been in the camp for so long he cannot recall anything of the freedom he once knew. Trapped by circumstances out of his control, he helps Nyx because he cannot help himself. After she discovers what happened to her sister, getting her back out becomes a deadly mission for them both.

United by a passion they can’t deny, they work together on an escape plan for Nyx—even though their destiny is to be forever apart. And as the Black Dagger Brotherhood is called upon for help, and Rhage discovers he has a half-brother who’s falsely imprisoned, a devious warden plots the deaths of them all…even the Brothers.

Hard to follow with the constant flashbacks and character changing. I'm gonna toss this one.

When Nyx and her sister Posie hit something big ramming their Volvo station wagon off the side of the road, they did not think it was anything but a deer, however thanks to Posie's insisting they help the injured animal, they discover it to be a pre trans male. What follows is a journey underground inside a prison camp.
We are taken into Rhages memories of a century ago when he meets The Jackal.

This story is 5 stars but the narrator receives only 3 stars. I enjoy JR Ward because her writing is different, more down to earth, descriptive and full but Jim Frangione is not the person to read her work. He needs to stick to mysteries & horror. So disappointed he is reading all her work. I guess I'll stick to print.

I was starting to drift from the BDB series. Thought the last 3-4 books were not as strong as the initial books. This book was a surprise and entertaining. It is an independent book in the BDB world, so not necessary to read BDB series to understand the story, but helpful. The female protagonist was atypical of female characters. She was strong but not lacking in empathy or character. The hero “Jack” definitely had personality and less of the damaged misunderstood victim backstory. You get a glimpse of Rhage and Darius 100 years ago. More depth into the BDB world and an introduction to a new vampire subspecies. Ending was bittersweet.

It is always a pleasure to listen to Jim. He adds such soul to his readings. I love every Brotherhood book. I have not been disappointed yet. Great job JR. Great job!
