LEFT TO DIE is book #1 in a new FBI thriller series by USA Today bestselling author Blake Pierce, whose #1 bestseller Once Gone (Book #1) (a free download) has received over 1,000 five star reviews.

FBI special agent Adele Sharp is a German-and-French raised American with triple citizenship—and an invaluable asset in bringing criminals to justice as they cross American and European borders.

When a serial killer case spanning three U.S. states goes cold, Adele returns to San Francisco and to the man she hopes to marry. But after a shocking twist, a new lead surfaces and Adele is dispatched to Paris, to lead an international manhunt.

Adele returns to the Europe of her childhood, where familiar Parisian streets, old friends from the DGSI and her estranged father reignite her dormant obsession with solving her own mother’s murder. All the while she must hunt down the diabolical killer, must enter the dark canals of his psychotic mind to know where he will strike next—and save the next victim before it’s too late.

An action-packed mystery series of international intrigue and riveting suspense, LEFT TO DIE will have you turning pages late into the night.

Books #2 and #3 in the series – LEFT TO RUN and LEFT TO HIDE – are also available for preorder!

I enjoyed some parts of this book but found many aspects so annoying.
The character wasn’t the typical cookie cutter FBI agent but she did not come across as very well trained. Her ‘partner’ also interesting but at times just appeared really rude & not very bright.
Some of the story needed a bit more fact checking e.g. what muscle paralytic drug immobilises all muscles except the respiratory muscles?
Some obvious investigation leads are mishandled e.g who had access to the drug? Rather they spent time looking at the entire staff.
And I’m sorry what law enforcement would drop their gun when the bad guy only had a scalpel?!?!?
Overall the book had promise but could have done with a good critic & edit before publishing.

The story is okay but there are so many misused words that I had to stop listening to it.

The story was good. It would've got 5 stars had it not been for the narrator. She was fine when talking as the english speaking charachters but she CANNOT do a French accent and it was grating to listen to her.

I enjoyed the suspense and the characters.
The voice of the narrator brought the character to life.

A great plot with strong characters. Well written. One of his best.

The characters are interesting and the plot moves at a decent pace. That’s the positive part. Things devolve around 3 hours into the recording when the sound began cutting out for a minute at a time occasionally. This usually happened during a key conversation or when the detective was musing over who the killer might be. This has happened with other Scribd audiobooks. I don’t know if the problem is the recording itself or if it’s Scribd’s problem.

Every character in this book is unrealistic. Both contrived and have no redeeming qualities. Spoiler:

FBI agents flying first class, every cop in the story is unprofessional and has no training even though they’re senior officers. Reads like it was written by a high school kid (10th grade) - which would be a great accomplishment - but as a published book... no.

Couldn’t finish the book due to the tone of the narrator. The narrator made the main character sound like a young whiny girl. Book begins very slowly; not sure how the ending is since I was unable to finish the book.

it's OK. but for special agents, they seem awfully emotional. it's a little repetitive & tedious & unrealistic tho.

More of a 3 and a half stars. It was good and kept me entertained throughout but was no great suspense. I also don’t see the relevance of the boyfriend at the start at all. He wasn’t even mentioned throughout

I enjoyed this. But the narrator definitely doesn’t do accents well and it was distracting at times, taking away from the story.

I’m wavering on quitting this book, which I rarely do. The characters, especially the French, are quite possibly a he most un-likable characters I’ve encountered in any book I’ve ever read. I’m giving it a fair shot...

Something I could easily read on a train or flight trip. Unfortunately the Reader didn’t fully engage me and I found her accents annoyingly amateurish.
I don’t feel at all compelled to read any other of his books...there’s very much a sense of a recipe approach to his characters.

Narration is very stilted at times, and the narrator has a very irritating way of talking. I tried to stick with it but the awful French accent was it for me. The main character didn't seem very inspiring either, very cold and I didn't feel very invested in the story as a result.

. Narrator does french accent that is more German than french
