About this audiobook

The author of The Right Swipe and Girl Gone Viral returns with a story about finding love in all the wrong inboxes...

Beauty expert and influencer Jia Ahmed has her eye on the prize: conquering the internet today, the entire makeup industry tomorrow, and finally, finally proving herself to her big opinionated family. She has little time for love, and even less time for the men in her private messages—until the day a certain international superstar slides into her DMs, and she falls hard and fast.

There’s just one wrinkle: he has no idea who she is.

The son of a powerful Bollywood family, soap opera star Dev Dixit is used to drama, but a strange woman who accuses him of wooing her online, well, that’s a new one. As much as he’d like to focus on his Hollywood fresh start, he can’t get Jia out of his head. Especially once he starts to suspect who might have used his famous name to catfish her…

When paparazzi blast their private business into the public eye, Dev is happy to engage in some friendly fake dating to calm the gossips and to dazzle her family. But as the whole world swoons over their relationship, Jia can’t help but wonder: Can an online romance-turned-offline-fauxmance ever become love in real life?

Well, I think I would have enjoyed it far more in the book format. The audio version was very robotic. Especially the female narrator. So the story felt flat and dull to me.

So soft and sweet and lovely. If you are looking for a warm hug in book form this is it.

Synopsis: When the man that Jia has been texting is in town but not meeting with her, she decides to take matters into her own hands and gets invited to an event where he will be. Unfortunately, when she goes up to him he doesn't seem to know her at all. She's been catfished. One thing Dev knows is that he can't stop thinking about her and when he calls her to try and find out why she seemed so upset, he finds out that his brother and then cousin hacked his account and had been messaging her. After this awkward beginning and broken trust, can these two ever be friends (or maybe more)?

Review: I don't know about you, but I have a soft spot for stories where the meet cute goes wrong and yet there's such chemistry between the two that they both try to give it a go anyway. This story takes that trope and executes on it really well with lots of twists. One thing I really enjoy about Alisha Rai's stories are how real her characters are and how Ms. Rai isn't afraid to give them real baggage that comes out in the romance - I mean that's real life right? Thankfully, Ms Rai does it well and with humor and so topics like parental pressure to succeed, competition with siblings, insecurity and anxiety, and other normal-and-tough topics are seamlessly integrated into her stories.

I really enjoyed the audiobook production of this story. The narration provided by Saira Ayers and Neil Shah was excellent and their voice treatment of multiple characters was spot on!

Another great one by Alisha! The narration also made the story come alive.
